No more good news everybody--this fourth series of Futurama is the show's last. By turns frenetic and far-sighted, Matt Groening's futuristic comedy provided belly-laughs for self-confessed SF nerds, but somehow failed to connect with a broader audience, even though it was often funnier and sharper than stablemate The Simpsons. So now bid farewell to the Planet Express team--Fry, Leela, Zoidberg, Bender, Amy, Hermes, Prof Farnsworth--as well as to kindly Kif, cloned Cubert, megalomaniac Mom, mutants in the sewer, the cast of robo-sitcom All My Circuits, swashbuckling space lothario and William Shatner wannabe Zapp Brannigan, Elzar the four-armed chef, and all the other characters that made Futurama such a unique experience.
This fourth and final year has all the elements that fans enjoyed so much--but also those elements that partially explain its cancellation. Recurring characters are great if you've watched the show before, as are the in-jokes; and the many parodies of classic science fiction are fine for the initiated, but risk leaving other viewers out in the cold. The show's strengths and perceived weaknesses are exemplified in the episode "Where No Fan Has Gone Before", in which the original cast of Star Trek play themselves: hilarious for Trekkers, but not really for anyone else. Elsewhere we find Leela discovering her real parents aren't aliens at all but in fact live in the sewers; Kif getting pregnant; Fry discovering the fossilised remains of his faithful pet dog; and Bender being converted to steam power. Despite some ups and downs, it's still the funniest animated show on TV. Those responsible for cancelling it can bite my shiny metal
On the DVD: Futurama, Series 4 DVD box set includes a "Play All" function on each disc. Multifarious extras include cast and crew commentaries, deleted scenes, animatics, galleries and Easter eggs. --Mark Walker

But anyway, this is the best series of Futurama featuring some utterly classic episodes, such as "Where no fan has gone before" which features almost the entire cast of Star Trek the Oringinal Series. Other episodes include Fry & Leela getting Superpowers, Kif getting pregnant by Leela(!) and Bender being converted to a wooden Steam powered model by a group of outdated Robots.
Buy it. Love it. Write to Fox & tell them off for cancelling the best thing on TV.
Oh, and a hint: The last few minutes of Jurassic Bark are up there with the greatest ever committed to film or video. But have several tissues ready and prepare to weep buckets.
I'm afraid I've only seen a few episodes from season 4, because here they only air in german. I hate the german translations, they're lame. But I'm sure they're up to Futurama's standards, and those are high, oh my yes. I read some graphic guides, and the jokes listed there were awesome. Every single episode I've seen so far had me laughing on the floor. It's only too bad that this will be the last we see of Futurama on DVD...
Caution: product might and will cause histerical laughing fits. Watch over an extended period of time, not like I did (all in one night).
If you're in any doubt as to why it attracts legions of loyal fans, just watch season 4. This show, more even than The Simpsons, knows how to pack an emotional punch without resorting to soppiness, and whilst keeping the comedy sharp. My 35yr old boyfriend was actually quite distressed to find himself in tears at the end of 'Jurassic Bark' - along with everyone else I know who has ever watched this particular episode! It's worth buying the whole boxset just for this half-hour of wonderful writing.
Anyway, let's hope the rumours of a full-length movie are true. But in the meantime enjoy this - it's 30-odd quid well spent, as you'll watch it again and again. It just gets funnier everytime.
Poking fun at Sci-Fi is easy but futurama both pokes fun and appreciates it at the same time, i havnt even got to disc 3 and i already think this is the best series so far, and sadly it is since they decided to stop making it, quite frankly one of the funniest american shows with a cast of characters who are just as good as his royal higness Homer Simpson.
quite simply Brilliant and funny sit back turn your brain to 'off' and enjoy the comedy action and romance
Season highlights for me are "Leela's Homeworld", the almost unbearably heart-wrenching "Jurassic Bark", "Crimes of the Hot", "The Sting", "Obsoletely Fabulous" - which is a brilliant insight into Bender`s view of the world, Treehouse-of-Horror-esque episodes "The Farnsworth Parabox" and "Three Hundred Big Boys", and the astonishingly inventive, inspired and ingenious closer, "The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings" - I happen to think that the Robot Devil is one of the greatest creations in comedy history so I`m biased, but what an amazing episode to finish with!
This is a fantastic culmination of the original run, and comparisons with other animated shows are not necessary; this is perfect all on it`s own.

Box set is way too big, takes up way too much space on the shelf!Published 2 months ago by Florentin
Hilarious and smart, this box set is probably one of the best for one of the best TV shows. I enjoyed all of the episodes, would watch them again, and would consider buying more... Read morePublished 9 months ago by Joel Walker
