Amazon.co.uk Review
Good news, everyone, the third series of Futurama is just as funny as ever--irreverent, boundlessly inventive, warmhearted and chock full of in-jokes, sight gags and fleeting references to all manner of pop culture icons and obscure genre classics. In fact, if the show has a problem it's this very fecundity: it's all so lovingly crafted that scarcely a frame goes by without something both funny and clever going on: when a horse wins a race by a quantum fraction, Prof Farnsworth fulminates "You changed the result by observing it!"

Recurring minor characters (Elzar the chef, the robot mafia, the mutants in the sewers) pop up unexpectedly throughout, providing another wink to dedicated fans; like Red Dwarf, this is a show that loves the genre it sets out to spoof. Shame, then, that the show has had a troubled broadcast history and never quite found the mainstream appeal of its stablemate The Simpsons.

This year, Fry and the Planet Express team find themselves stranded on a planet of unfeasibly large women ("Amazon Women in the Mood"), standing in for psychotic Robo-Santa ("A Tale of Two Santas", with John Goodman reprising his evil robot) and variously falling in love with each other and sundry other humans, aliens, man-bots, fem-bots, virtual reality constructs and even the Planet Express ship itself.

On the DVD: Futurama, Series 3 comprises 22 episodes on four discs (see below for complete episode list). As with previous series DVDs the animated menus are a treat and there's a selection of bonus features including deleted scenes, storyboards, selected episode commentaries, animatics, "How to draw" tips and more. Best of all, though, each disc now has a "Play All" facility for the first time. Sheer heaven. --Mark Walker

5.0 out of 5 stars Season 3 - the only complete one., 25 April 2003
Out of the 4 production runs Futurama had (stretched to 5+ seasons on TV), Season 3 is the only one with a complete set of 22 episodes.

Quality of the episodes is a bit mixed. You get "stinkers" (by Futurama standards - still being great entertainment) like "That's Lobstertainment!", "A Leela of Her Own" and "A Pharaoh To Remember" but you also get a great share of real gems: The Emmy nominated "Amazon Women In The Mood", "Parasites Lost", "The Luck of the Fryrish", Emmy winner and Annie directing winner "Roswell that Ends Well" and WGA winner "Godfellas" to name a few.

As for the extras: Full length commentaries for the episodes (an extra one for "Roswell"), an Animatic of "Anthology of Interest 2" (early animated drawing version), more than 15 minutes of deleted scenes and then some. I've interviewed WGA winner Ken Keeler ("Godfellas") before and it was fun to get to know some of the backgrounds. The commentaries are a great surrogate to get that yourself.

Full episode list:
DVD 1:
* Amazon Women in the Mood
* Parasites Lost
* A Tale of Two Santas
* The Luck of the Fryrish
* The Bird-bot of Ice-catraz
* Bendless Love

DVD 2:
* The Day the Earth Stood Stupid
* That's Lobstertainment!
* The Cyber House Rules
* Where the Buggalo Roam
* Insane in the Mainframe

DVD 3:
* The Route Of All Evil
* Bendin' In The Wind
* Time keeps on slippin'
* I Dated A Robot
* A Leela of Her Own
* A Pharaoh To Remember

DVD 4:
* Anthology of Interest II
* Roswell that Ends Well
* Godfellas
* Futurestock
* 30 % Iron Chef

Futurama fans will have to buy it anyway, but I also suggest others to have a look at it. The show might be cancelled, but the quality of entertainment it induces is still great.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Really DO HOPE 20th Century Fox Will Bring Back Futurama, 4 Jan 2006
By D. W. Bissett "dave_bissett" (Cumbria, UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
I think it was a crime against television that FUTURAMA (1999-2003), Matt Groening's wonderful and funny follow-up to THE SIMPSONS (1989-????), got axed by Twentieth Century Fox. The show had gotten better and better when Fox WRONGFULLY cancelled it. FUTURAMA should receive the same regoncition that THE SIMPSONS has recieved.

My favourite episodes of Season Three are:

"Parasites Lost" - The first and, thankfully, not the last episode where Fry tries to win the heart of Leela. The scenes with the two in together are very touching and sweet.
"Amazon Women In The Mood" - our heroes get trapped on a planet of giant, Amazonian women, which is ruled by a man-hating, female computer. What surprised me in that episode was that the relationship between Amy and Kif (Zapp Brannigan's long-suffering alien companion) was beginning to develop.
"The Day The Earth Stood Stupid" - Evil alien brains conquer Earth and only Fry can stop them! The other thing that surprised me in this Season was that Nibbler, Leela's cute pet alien, is a member of a powerful and intelligent race!
"Luck Of The Fryish" - A very moving episode where Fry travels into the remains of Old New York to get this lucky, leaf clover back. The ending is so emotional.
"The Cyber House Rules" - Leela decides to get an eye operation while Bender adopts 12 orphans.
"Rosewell That Ends Well" - the crew accidentally gets sent back through time and ends up in Rosewell, 1947 in this Emmy award-winning episode!

There are many great episodes of Season Three. It's just a shame that FUTURAMA got axed when the show was developing. However, in recent months, there have been rumours that Fox will bring the show back because it has done so well on DVD and TV repeats. I really DO hope it will happen! FUTURAMA, like THE SIMPSONS, will live forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Season Ever!, 29 April 2003
By A Customer
Following the mis-adventures of everyones favourite Delivery boy and his group of oddball friends (Zoidberg Rocks!!)
Season 3 continues Matt Groenings hilarous animated comedy from season 2 into some of its finest moments.

This is my overall fave season, The box set comprises of 4 DVD's filled with a total of 22 episodes
(the biggest boxset Futurama will see!)
DVD 1:Amazon Women in the Mood, Parasites Lost, A Tale of 2 Santas, Luck of the Fryish, The Bird-bot of Ice-catraz & Bendless Love.
DVD 2:The Day the Earth Stood Stupid, That's Lobstertainment, The Cyber House Rules, Where the Buggalo Roam & Insane in the Mainframe.
DVD 3:The Route of All Evil, Bendin' in the Wind, Time Keeps on Slippin', I Dated a Robot, A Leela of her own & A Pharaoh to Remember.
DVD 4:Anthology of Interest 2, Roswell that Ends Well, Godfellas, Futurestock, 30% Iron Chef.

Special Features of course include a commentary on every single episode by Matt Groening, David X Cohen and character voices that rarely fails to entertain.
Over 15 minutes of deleted scenes and stills gallery as with the Season 1 & 2 Boxsets.

The Picture and Sound Quality are Flawless and although this season does contain some poorer episodes, it is also home to some all time greats such as "Amazon Women in the Mood," "Parasites Lost," "Time Keeps on Slippin" and the Emmy-winner (and my personal faveourite episode) "Roswell that Ends Well"

If you're a fan of the series then this boxset is a must have, from Leelas second Eye and Professor Farnsworths mutant basketballers, to Frys Past-Nastyness with his Grandmother :-) AND all of the 'naughty' jokes that are cut from TV.

This Season will have you in stitches, and the entertaining commentaries just add to the re-watchability of these DVD's
For a meagre 30-40quid This Boxset will crown your DVD collection for years to come.

If I could give it 6/5 I would!!!
