Product Description

The Fusionbrand IceOrb, vertical ice cube maker, is the first vertical ice tray that makes, chills, serves and stores. The Iceorb will make 21 cubes of ice on its vertical wall and will store up to 51 cubes. Simply remove the inner bucket and fill the orb with water to the indicated fill line. Place bucket back in the orb (displacing the water), place lid on and pop into the freezer. Once frozen, again pull out the bucket, pop the ice cubes out of the wall and either use, or store inside the bucket. More ice cubes can be made at this time. The inside of the orb is airtight and therefore odor free! The orb doubles as a wine bucket or as a serving vessel. Use as a cooler to keep cold foods fresh while serving?great for ice cream. The lid can be placed under the orb to catch condensation. The orb is top rack dishwasher safe.

You probably shouldn't get excited about an flash ice tray but I like gadgets that work.

The hardest thing about it was persuading the wife to make room for it in the freezer!

There is a trick to removing the inner bucket to get at the new ice cubes. Turn it upside down and press your thumbs into the base (make sure the lid is on first!). I was going to dock it 1 star for this but it's a great idea.

Other than that it makes and stores ice just as it says on the box.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fusion Brands Ice Orb 15 Dec 2011
Verified Purchase
I carefully read the other reviews (mostly negative), but decided to take a chance nonetheless. Upon receiving my Orb, I followed the simple enough instructions, and, once frozen, found that it was indeed bloody difficult to remove the inner blue bucket, to retrieve the ice! However, there WAS a knack to it, mainly pushing the outer circles towards one another (you hear the ice cracking, thus becoming dislodged from the bucket) Then, finally, using a firm grip, and upside down, you push the bucket base downwards, using your two thumbs, which, until today, did the job nicely! Sadly todays effort went somewhat "down the pan", as the middle section of the blue inner bucket broke away completely, leaving me with "a hole in my bucket" so to speak! No more ice for me, UNLESS someone out there can help, as the product does work, but it seems, becomes brittle after a couple of months.... Would like to get a replacement inner, but dont have any idea how to go about it! Maybe the nice people at Fusion Brands will help me, if they read this. It IS C
hristmas, after all.... UPDATE! Did indeed get in touch with Fusion Brands, and, God bless them, they sent me a replacement bucket... so Im back in business! 10 out of 10 for customer service!

5.0 out of 5 stars Genius! 15 Sep 2011
By Helen
Have looked for years for a sensible solution to ice making - the trays spill in the freezer, need to be absolutely flat, and when you come to getting some ice cubes they are empty! They also take up so much space!

The ice orb is absolutely genius! It is watertight, so doesnt spill, doesnt have to be completely flat, and stores one lot of ice cubes for use while the next lot are being made. It is so easy to refill that even my husband does it - I have never (in over a year) arrived at the freezer to find it empty.

Yes, it takes a few tries to get used to getting the bucket out, but once you get the hang of it, it takes about 5 seconds. Trick is to use thumbs on the bottom and fingers around the rim rather than the other way round.

It is not really suitable for people with poor hand strength though.

I will never go back to trays!

4.0 out of 5 stars Ice-tastic 16 April 2011
By Will
For a glorified ice tray this thing is pretty expensive at 15. That said it's also a wine/drinks cooler or a great way to keep your ice cream or frozen desert from melting. The clever bit is the outer rubber sleeve that you fill with water. Once filled to just above the bottom level of 'nodes' you insert the inner plastic bucket and the water level rises to fill all the nodes. Pop the whole thing in the freezer and wait. Once frozen you remove the inner bucket (flip upside down, push the bucket out with your thumbs, remembering to free the 'lip' at the top that keeps everything together in the freezer) - then you simply empty the nodes back into the bucket and repeat the process.

The inner ice bucket will hold just under two complete 'freezes' worth of ice nodes which is more than enough for an afternoon in the garden or party. Don't forget the clever thing is that whilst you're consuming the ice you've already frozen and emptied into the bucket you can be freezing a fresh batch in the outer sleeve, that's the really clever bit.

I've not used my ice orb as a wine cooler but the facility is there to do that too by using the inner bucket for a bottle of wine (instead of already frozen ice cubes) the outer sleeve when filled with ice will keep your drinks cool.

All in all this is a really clever bit of design that maximizes the space it occupies in the freezer. You should definitely note this thing isn't small, it's about the same size as a round tub of ice cream plus the size of the rubber sleeve so make sure you have freezer space. That said if you have a couple of standard ice trays they would soon equate to the same size as the ice orb.

3.0 out of 5 stars I like it, but... 1 Jun 2012

I've owned this ice bucket for a little less than two months now. I have used it daily since I bought it and like almost everyone else here, I've found it hard to get the bucket out of the cube former. I don't really mind too much. I learned that if you only let one of the lip seals lock around the bucket ring (if you buy it, you'll understand) I can separate the bucket from the form pretty easily. Unfortunately, today I found a hole in the silicone cube mould. I noticed this after I filled up the mould and let if freeze. When I returned to grab a couple cubes to chill my drink, I noticed that the top row of cubes was empty, even though I had filled it enough to make a full load of cubes. Thinking that maybe I was mistaken, I emptied the mould and filled it again, this time over filling it, to make more ice. I came back this evening and noticed that once again the mould was one row short of ice. After closely examining the mould, I found a 5mm long tear in the silicone. Apparently when the mould is filled with water, it's not big enough of a tear to let it leak. But when the water starts to freeze and the mould expands, the tear opens and the water pours out.

I really like this bucket and mould. I'm sad that it didn't last long enough to make it to summer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy!
Neat idea/concept but when water freezes you cannot separate the cube tray from the inner surface; ie, you have to wait for the ice to melt (hence defeating the purpose!). Read more
