Product Description

A clandestine race of half-dragon, half-humans known as dragon-shifters lives among us. Bastian, leader of the Nightfury dragon clan, is sworn to protect humankind at all costs. For him, honor and duty always come first. When the clan dictates he take a human mate to sire a son, he falters, aware that for a human to birth a dragon-shifter she must die. Myst, the woman given into his care, is the most extraordinary he’s ever met, and though he can’t bear the thought of harming her he is bound by duty.

Myst loves her life in the human world, but Bastian has captured her heart in an instant of electric connection. But Bastian and his warriors are in the middle of a deadly battle with the Razorback dragon-shifters, intent on killing every Nightfury clan member—and the humans they protect—the fate of their world and ours hangs in the balance.

An extraordinary blend of action, fantasy, and steamy romance, Fury of Fire brings to life a dangerous new world intertwined with the survival of humanity, all while exploring the meaning of honor and the nature of true love.

About the Author

As the only girl on all-guys hockey teams from age six through her college years, Coreene Callahan knows a thing or two about tough guys and loves to write about them. Call it kismet. Call it payback after years of locker room talk and ice rink antics. But whatever you call it, the action better be heart stopping, the magic electric, and the story wicked good fun.

After graduating with honors in psychology and working as an interior designer, Callahan finally succumbed to her overactive imagination and returned to her first love: writing. And when she’s not writing, she is dreaming of magical worlds full of dragon-shifters, elite assassins, and romance that’s too hot to handle. Callahan currently lives in Canada with her family and her writing buddy, a fun-loving golden retriever.

By ROROBLU'S MUM TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I love paranormal tales - weres, dragons, vamps, shifters - I'm happy to try any. With this one, admittedly there wasn't a great bunch of offerings on amazon vine, but the cover was very similar to the type of book I read, so I quickly grabbed it after reading the blurb. I was sure I would be getting a paranormal romance/urban fantasy, with dragon shifters, a la Bianca d'Arc/Lara Adrian/Alexandra Ivy/Allyson James. Well, I got a poor imitation of some of the above, fused with an imitation of JR Ward material - but nowhere nearly as good as any of these authors.

The blurb tells you that it's about good dragons battling for the existence of their race, and battling bad dragons, with the leader of the good ones, Bastian, being ready for a mating with a human that would result in a male being born to his race, and the human dying (tough). Not the best ending, but wait, it's meant to be a romance, so I read on...

At around a third of the way through, nothing much had happened between the leads, but due credit, the author was creating her world, I thought. Not so, not really, as she just dropped dragons into our world, incognito. No real world-building, but it was s..l..o..w.

At around two thirds of the way through, the leads got down and...not really that dirty, which was rather disappointing. There should have been more angst, more fire - both figuratively and literally, and more passion. Also around this time, I kind of clocked that the author hadn't really done anything original, and wondered if this was a case of her being a fan of JR Ward, Alexandra Ivy and Lara Adrian, and this tale being her tribute to them?

2.0 out of 5 stars What did I just read...? 14 Feb 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I don't review things, in fact I never do. But I felt I had to warn people about this book. Reading the other reviews I wondered if these people had read the same book.

I bought it because Amazon recommended it for me. The plot was interesting and unique, which I liked. Actually the plot is the only thing that kept me reading when I wanted to stop. In the end, though, I never finished the book and returned it for a full refund.

The reason I returned it is because of the writing style. It was miserable and I'm surprised I got as far as I did. I don't consider abbreviations for things like 'landing zone' (LZ) acceptable. Its just lazy. The amount of times the author uses the word 'yeah' is equivalent to a 16 year old American school girl. So annoying, like OMG...

Most of the book was product advertising. She has a big, black handbag, I don't care if it's Gucci or not. Furthermore, a friend of mine read a little bit and was deeply insulted when AC~DC was considered 'death rock'. More research needed to go into this book, less advertising, better diction and generally written by someone else.

The plot was good though :)

2.0 out of 5 stars A mishmash of other popular authors. 24 Mar 2012
By Beanie Luck Spud TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
When you decide to plagiarise other authors works you should in fact put that in the byline.

I am a huge fan of j r ward and this is a blatant rip off of her black dagger brotherhood series.

Now like some others when i saw this on Vine and thought oo a new paranormal series about dragon shifters i was in, however i was really disappointed.

1stly the abbreviations for things, tired, boring and lazy.

2nd - the draconian way the lead female character is kidnapped and held against her will is so draconian its ridiculous, i wish paranormal writers wouldn't do this because it brings on Stockholm syndrome which incidentally kresley cole just suffered from in lothaire, another terrible book.

3rd - tag names, i mean really ?? Venom, Rikar, Wick, Myst, Ivar, Forge, Lothair (really)

4th - Stop stealing other authors works.

Ok rant over, now the premise of this book has potential, i loved the possibility of Dragon Shifters, loved hearing how they change seamlessly from Dragon to man and it has mass potential if it was written properly.

Black Diamond is a great lair, i really like it.

If the Author can stop channelling j r ward, kresley cole, gena showalter and lara adrian and actually find her own voice she may do ok in the books that are to come.

Bastian is a bit of a wimp if im honest, Rikar not much better, you dont get to read much about Wick or Venom either.

Now the one single thing that wound me up more than anything was the speed at which this story was taken on. Bastian meets Myst and within 4 days they are in love and pregnant, im sorry but WTH !?!?!

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay 13 Feb 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This was a fair enough read, I thoroughly enjoyed it for the most part, however it had two major downfalls. The first being the ending, it was such a let down, even a simple epilogue would have sufficed, just to give an insight into the future of the two main characters. I know there will be two sequels however they are not about the protagonists and it is not enough for a fulfilling read. The second was the plethora of extra writing that was unnecessary. I went through some chapters without reading anything of it and managed to understand the whole plot line.
Nonetheless, you do get engrossed in the lives of the main characters and for a fantasy novel it was believable, as much as one can be of course and therefore I would recommend this novel, but only if you're willing to invest and wait for the sequels.
