5.0 out of 5 stars SHORTS, 8 Nov 2005
By
i d willox (London, London United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Furthermore (Paperback)
There aren't many writers who manage to make a living from short stories any more - without the short story magazine market of yore there isn't the chance for them to hone their skills. Somehow Susie Maguire has honed her skills to produce a delightful compendium mixing humour and insight in bite sized stories that are a joy. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beware : caustic!, 8 Oct 2011
This review is from: Furthermore (Paperback)

In Furthermore Susie Maguire slips inside the cracks of life and underlines the discrepancy between the images d'Epinal we are sometimes given of life and life as it actually is.

The short stories are very short indeed, written in a simple language, but Susie Maguire's words exude a dark vision of life: It squeaks (Mae West Optional), it hurts(A Private View), it grimaces(Nice Puppies), it's noir(French Lessons), it's hopeless (Under Observation), it twists your heart (The Laws of Motion).

It is without a doubt excellent but each short story leaves us with an odd feeling : we wonder whether we understood what's meant, read again. And ask for more..
