Product Description

DAILY MIRROR (22.9.06)

'full of frank humour and even more frank action.'

Review

'The long awaited follow up to The Intimate Adventures of a London Call Girl charts the notorious Belle in the world of high-class vice. She's trying hard to land a respectable job, but can't resist seeing clients in her lunch hour. She's still at it, still doesn't care what people think and it's still utterly addictive.' (COMPANY (October 2006) **** )

'Full of agony aunt letters and advice from her days as a call girl, Belle de Jour's diary is bold and funny. It's a book full of insightful observations written by a woman working hard to find her place in the world.' (WATERSTONES BOOKS QUARTERLY )

'full of frank humour and even more frank action.' (DAILY MIRROR (22.9.06) )

'Her writing [is] full of refreshing comedy and eye-watering advice...Belle's candid humour is compulsive.' (Katy Guest THE INDEPENDENT (22.9.06) )

'Whether she's describing peculiar fetishes or handing out agony aunt style advice, it's Belle's witty, stylish writing, rather than her salacious subject matter, that really stands out. Although more Bridget Jones in a brothel than Catherine Deneuve in Chanel, this tongue-in-cheek delight will nonetheless leave a smile on your face.' (Jo Hoare HEAT (30.9 - 6.10 2006) ***** )

4.0 out of 5 stars I loved the first book. Clearly, some hated it... but:, 2 Oct 2006
I imagine that many readers of the first Belle de Jour book awaited the arrival of this tome as I eagerly as I did. The question on everyone's lips must be; does it live up to the expectations set by the first? Initial impressions would be that it is written in the same vein. Further exploration does, however, reveal a very different animal. It does read rather like a sequel because, duh! it is a sequel... but to reproduce the first book, or the ongoing blog, would have been tiresome and derivative. This time the author has struck out in a subtly different direction, and fleshed out some of the characters previously introduced. Mainly, though, the pseudonymous one has written an amusing novel of the love-life of the main player, with whose antics many previous readers (myself included) have developed an almost unhealthy obsession.

In this book, like its predecessor, the story is punctuated by bullet point lists, top tens, and in a new variation, several pages of agony aunt letters to Belle. These, like the rest of the book, draw on the author's experience as a call-girl while carefully not being as much about prostitution as the first volume clearly was. Don't get me wrong - there is a fair bit of prostitution in it, but these encounters form less than half of the numerous sexual liaisons described. The professional hook-ups do tend to contain more detail than the more personal ones. None of the description is too gratuitous, though. Throughout, the book is good-humoured and entertaining, rather than pointlessly titillating. I enjoyed reading it, and then I enjoyed reading it again almost immediately. I would recommend Belle de Jour's Further Adventures to anyone who isn't offended by female promiscuity, but I would strongly suggest reading the first book first.

2.0 out of 5 stars What happened?!, 9 Aug 2007
By Droopy_Ears (London, UK) - See all my reviews
I thoroughly enjoyed the first book, pretty disappointed in this follow up. I was hoping the story would pick up but I did not get into her ramblings and felt that she would have had more sense regarding "the boy". I was also disappointed with the end, hopefully this was a blip in Belle's life.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible!, 27 Dec 2006
What a let down! I loved Belle's first book. This one, was simply awful. I kept forcing myself to turn each page, hoping desperately that the story would pick up, that it would get interesting. It didn't. This book is boring and self indulgent. Belle talks for 322 pages and somehow manages to say nothing at all. I had hoped that when I got to the conclusion, I would discover why Belle thought her ramblings important enough to be published. There is no conclusion, she simply stops talking. I feel angry and cheated.

2.0 out of 5 stars A dull and dreary version of Bridget Jones
