Wow, I purchased this dog for my daughter who has special needs and has no ability to talk. Although it mainly uses voice commands, the sensors in the body and also the touch pad on the left foot means that it reacts for her and gives her a paw without any verbal prompting. With myself and two other sisters to do the voice commands for her, she does the feeding, stroking and gets a paw with no problems at all. She gets much more enjoyment from him than I ever imagined.
My other two daughters love it also and my mother has it at the moment and has confessed that she has a wee play with him now and again but not to tell anyone (so its just between us!)

This toy looks absolutely beautiful, very life-like of a golden retriever puppy. However the mechanics are far from great, they are very noisy and very "rachety" we had our puppy only a day and during that time he was only "working" a few times then he laid down by command something made a very loud noise in his back and he couldn't get up again, presumably something had broken, which I was very annoyed about as he is expensive and for that sort of money you don't expect the "puppy" to break in such a short space of time and particularly as it wasn't a child that had it. We also noticed that although he did the 6 commands he didn't necessarily do them when he was "told"to, he basically did what he wanted.!a bit like our "real" golden retriever!!.
We returned the first puppy and now have another,he seems ok at the moment but the mechanics are still awfully noisy and when giving commands you do end up wondering if he is actually going to do them as you often have to repeat the commands several times. Also with this second one his fur doesn't fit nice and close to his head and it is also very loose around his neck.I did ask how long the guarentee was and was told 28days (this was not bought from amazon, but from toys R us, I told the salesperson that unless I was given in writing a guarantee for a year (by that store) I was not interested in having the second one, which they did. To be honest I cannot see it lasting that long simply because of the jerkiness and rachety noise it makes.Hasbro would have been better placed to make a soft toy lifesize dog rather than one with dodgy mechanisms.I would like to give the dog more of a rating than I have done, but being honest it isn't durable and as I have expresssed previously cannot see it lasting that long- and that is with it belonging to an adult

I bought this for my son for Christmas..we opened the box together & we were faced with a beautiful cute face peeking out from inside...as i put in the batteries it came to life & my son adores it..it responds to voice commands brilliantly...my sister has just lost her real dog & she is tempted to buy one for herself...but all in all this product is far better than i expected..:)
