The fibre optics do NOT change colour. The fibre optic strands are a static blue. There is some colour change in the base, but that is all.

I can't call this a toy,it really is a lovely lamp,the fibre octave colours changing shade is hypnotic-and VERY relaxing.If you were to buy one for a child it would make a soothing nightlight,and does not need to be near a power point as it'd battery run....this is both an advantage and diadvantage as whilst you can place it away from any power source and not take up socket space,I do tend to put it on for as short a time as possible,as triple A batteries are SO SO expensive,and they don't last terribly long.I was dissapointed that it didnt have the option to ''plug it in''( with a similar connector as a phone charger as the base is quite small).
Whilst the base IS small-it also changes colour in a beutiful glow and can stand easily on a speaker or small shelf while many lamps are too big to do so.Th fibre optic ''spray'' of light from the top are long,thick and generous giving off a wonderful glow.
All in all Im love this lamp, am pleased I bought it and would buy another as a gift for friends/family and do recommend it,and at such a GREAT price you can't really go wrong,the lesser stars I put in on this review were for questions on educational value and durability which I don't think are applicable to this product- if the questions were for satisfaction as a customer and value for money it I WOULD have put 10% out of 10%, all in all a fab lamp.

The product is excellent, however the supplier was extremely slow at delivering the goods and as they were for Christmas presents, I was getting quite concerned that they would not arrive in time for Christmas, even though they had been ordered well in advance.
