This, the 3rd 'official' album by Misty's Big Adventure (they have wonderful albums that you can only buy on tour as well called Grumpy Fun and Grumpier Fun) has been a long time coming. We first heard murmerings of it early last year then they had the wondeful Fashion Parade single that distracted them and then there was allegedly quite a bit of shenanigans to do with who was actually going to put the record out. They finally decided to put it out on their own Grumpy Fun recordings and thank god they did as it is well worth the wait.
On the whole it has a real hypnotic, dreamlike sound to it which must be down to the alleged heavy influence of Joe Meek whilst recording it. I'm a big fan but will admit that it's not as instant as their other albums but once hooked it's almost more rewarding with some of their best work contained here like the beautiful "Everything Goes Wrong" and the classic "Serious Thing".
This band should be cherished for what they are - one of this country's best, consistently great, most artsitic bands.

If you can imagine a tongue-in-cheek, popsy Julian Cope in his Sunspots era then you can imagine the sound of the mighty Misty's. They are so consistently entertaining that it amazes me that they they are still just a cult. The only other band I know who have released three albums in a row without a single duff track is the Fall. Nuff said.

Funny Times is a whimsical and jolly romp with plenty of hummable yet bizarre psychedelic hooks. I love it!
