The first single release from the new The Life Pursuit record is a radio friendly feast, with the hallmarks of B&S and Stuart in great voice.
Like many I thought this was a strange choice for the first release, but after three listens you have the melody whirling round in your head, and you realise how good it sounds on the radio.
The B side of Meat & Potatoes has fantastic lyrics about sadomasochism which are laced with dark, smouldering humour; This song would not be written by any other group, which is why is seems so unique and fresh.
I could eat these songs for breakfast.....try them yourself !

belle and sebastian --- another irish/brit/welsh group

making fun music using sounds out of the sixties........

the hooks today's youth are hearing in this kind of music---

the thrills, travis, charletans, and even mcfly---

are what made sixties and early seventies radio

so catchy---happy music for a generation wanting

to forget about politics, war, and just have a blast....funny little frog....

a tune you will hum all day, with a smile

buy the two b-sides off iTunes for much less 14 Feb 2006

"Funny Little Frog" is a fantastic song (in my opinion), and the so-called hardcore Belle & Sebsatian fans will need the single to round out their collection, but everyone else should stay away. The price as of now is way too high for the two rather mediocre b-sides, and you can buy them for a dollar apiece on iTunes anyway.

The musically lacking "Meat and Potatoes" has fantastic lyrics with many witty sexual puns and whatnot. "I Took a Long Hard Look" is a by-the-numbers Stevie tune, but one can imagine it benefiting from being placed somewhere on "The Life Pursuit," had Stuart stuck to his original idea of having a double album.
