Product Description

Review

'The best text for my first-year physical geography courses for over ten years...The authors are to be complimented on their clear and easy style.' - Chris Young, Christchurch University College, Canterbury

'If this book had been available during my undergraduate years, it would have saved me a lot of time and effort searching for several texts when this one book would have been sufficient...At such a reasonable price, this book is highly recommended for first year undergraduates who require a broad background in this field.' - International Journal of Environmental Education and Information, Vol 17, No.1, Jan 98

This book is indispensable for all first year students studying Physical Geography, and provides a good background for many second year courses too.
The third edition of the widely acclaimed 'Fundamentals of the Physical Environment' is far more accessible than the last, with slight chapter restructuring, but diagrams are now in colour, which I thought made them far easier to read and understand.
Topics are clearly set out, well written and illustrated, and covers in sufficient detail practically all aspects of a Physical Geography course. There are many new or update case studys and has some useful website links.
All in all, thoroughly recommended - easily the best (and most used!) book I've read on the subject!

The other reviewer was spot on with their appraisal of this book. I've just completed a degree in conservation and I've used this book in the first, second and third years. It's been useful in an incredible variety of topics. I've used for geology, geography, conservation, soils, environmental pollution and ecology topics. Although an academic text, aimed at first and second year university students, in places this makes an interesting read for anyone wanting to find out more about the environment. Great illustrations, easy to read and stimulating. My lecturers at university recommended this book early on in the course. It didn't take long to realise why.

Not entirely acceptable at all. The glue in the spine has completely gone with some pages in the middle falling out. The book edges are frayed i.e. outer layer and under layer have come apart. The front of the book's spine has chunks of the cover taken out. There are coffee/tea stains over the side of the book with some obvious water damage. Will be sending back and expecting a full refund with postage and packaging paid for.

Purchased when studying for a Geography degree. This text book is informative and easy it read, it contains a wealth of information that is displayed in an easy to use layout with text that is interesting rather than some textbooks that make you want to fall asleep.

A good purchase for anyone studying the environment or geography.

This book is a very good textbook. I used this as part of my geography degree and still use it now. It provides a lot more detail than other books I purchased, which is needed to be able to answer essay questions. It is very good for referencing and for anyone interested in geography it makes for a great educational read. I still have this book and still read it. I recommend this book to anyone studying geography.
