'Day after day, in all countries of the world, millions of students go to school and university in an unconscious, mechanical, and subjective manner, without knowing why or for what purpose.'

In this amazing book, Samael Aun Weor takes a deep look into the problems of our modern education systems. We are told what to think and what to remember, but how much of what we learned has really changed us for the better, or has really been of assistance to us in times of personal crisis?

With this book, you can go back to the classroom (so to speak) and re-educate yourself in the principles of Fundamental Education. This is that timeless teaching whose goal is the awakening of consciousness in us, and the development of everything which comes with it, such as free initiative, generosity, peace, integration, intelligence etc.

Samael Aun Weor writes this book with great compassion and love, and as a consequence it can be very moving. This an amazing book which provides all the fundamentals we need in order to develop spiritually and to become of more help to others.

Also in this book are chapters dedicated to the different stages of life (adolescence, youth, mature age, old age, and death), and various aspects of esoteric psychology. This is a very deep and moving book- you will not be disappointed!

Gnosis, the Consciousness, and Learning How to Think

The fundamental education is the science of the consciousness; it is the science that allows us to discover our relationship with human beings, nature, and all things. - Samael Aun Weor

In this amazing and deeply moving analysis of the problems that exist in modern systems of education, Samael Aun Weor demonstrates with superior logic and tremendous love how vital it is for people to learn not "what to think, but HOW to think." By awakening the consciousness and developing the heart and mind in equilibrium comes the potential to alter the painful realities that humanity is suffering within every day. Perhaps his most quotable book, it is an absolute necessity for all students of the Gnostic tradition, and is especially beneficial for instructors and parents.

What is the value of studying law and becoming lawyers if we perpetuate fights? What is the value of accumulating much knowledge within our mind if we continue to be confused? What is the value of technical and industrial skills if we use them for the destruction of our fellowmen?

It is worthless to receive instruction, to attend classes, to study, if in the process of our daily living we are miserably destroying one another.

Indeed, the true objective of a fundamental education must be to create true men and women, who--because of their psychological integration--are cognizant and intelligent. - Samael Aun Weor

Originally published in Spanish as "Educacion Fundamental" (1970).

I've read quite a few of Samael Aun Weor's books. Out of the books I've read, this is the one I've most enjoyed and I found it worthwhile. I read this as part of a wider-reading exercise on Gnosticism in general. Samaelean Gnosticism is quite controversial, even within the wider-Gnostic community itself but, despite that, I felt that there was some real food for thought in this book whether the reader is gnostic or not. Some of what the author says in this book can seem very controversial (and it is!!!!) and it does not always reflect modern thinking and so it's important to read his books with an open mind and to mindful of the context in which they were written (mid 20th century South America).

Real Education 10 Nov. 2008
By Philip Alexander - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Fundamentals of Gnostic Education is a book that should be read by people of all ages, races and levels of education. It confronts the problems of the quality of education at the most focal points.
Are we concerned with educating each other in a manner that promotes healthy individual thinking, or are we going to continue teaching in a manner that promotes repetition and apathy? Does fear ever belong in the classroom? Are there only the two categories of right and wrong answers? What should teachers, the people preparing our future generations for life outside of school, consider most important when teaching their lessons?
All of these questions as well as countless others are considered in the pages of this book.

Great text on Morality, Ethics and Socio-Economics 21 Sept. 2008
By Ryan Kouroukis - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This undervalued and unknown text by Samael Aun Weor has be published kindly for the first time in the English language. It lays down major principals "for" an education and not of education itself.

Samael explains the factors of learning, the "Why's" and "How's"...NOT "What's". He argues for the case of Morality and Ethics and gives many facts about the problems of societal education and modern life.

I see this text as a guide for Parents and not school officials...since school officials care more of school as a business and not of spiritual, moral and ethical progress in their assemblies and students, or themselves personally (even though they might say it).

This perhaps is the next best thing after Waldorf Education. It offers the reader a new path and a goal, and especially a way out of the mess we find ourselves in these current times.

Very inspired, passionate and lucid!

Beautiful and Inspiring 26 Sept. 2009
By Forester Walker - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
A beautiful work by Samael Aun Weor that is written with students, teachers, and parents in mind. In the book, the author breaks down the fundamental problems of modern education as well as the solutions to fix it. He explains "how" and not "what" to think. Any teacher, student, or parent will find a rich source of practical guidance in this work.

If every educator read this, we WOULD have world peace. 2 Aug. 2012
By Jeremy P. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
If the educators of this planet would practice the methods and disciplines in this book humanity would be in a very different circumstance. The contents their in are not new concepts by any means. Great people in history have all followed these philosophies. This book is just a practical revelation of such concepts.
