5.0 out of 5 stars Great Text for Palaeontologists and Evolutionists, 7 May 2006
By Fossil Girl (Hampshire, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This book is a versatile book for many subject areas though my primary focus in palaeontological. The book, as the title implies, gives a thorough and detailed overview of the functional morphology of vertebrates but from an evolutionary perspective. It's the evolutionary persepective aspect which applies greatly to palaeontologists and evolutionists but it would also be ideal for zoologists. The book is very clearly laid out with key words highlighted and plenty of sub-headings. The illustrations are excellently suited to the text, clear and explanatory. Although the range of colours is largely limited to red and blue it does make a surprisingly huge difference to its readability, though the quality of the text alone makes it a worthwhile investment. It's a must have, certainly, for a budding vertebrate palaeontologist as a reference text. It would probably be more appealing to many students as a slightly cheaper paperback version but this hardback edition is of very high quality and as a reference text it's probably just as well as it will get a lot of use!
