The buttons/knobs are so stiff that my little girl simply can't operate them. It is a major fault.

I wanted a Pop up toy just like my own children had as youngsters for my 18 month old grandson! Nothing has changed in 20 odd years - my two children loved it then and so does Jack, my grandson! Took a few weeks to master all the different ways to make the animals pop up but he still loves it and gets it out of the toy box many times!

Ok, so I was really looking forward to getting this toy for my two boys, we had a similar one which was alot older that broke. They loved it so I thought it was best to buy a replacement. ALL the new ones lack aesthetic appeal. Bacically all models nowadays feel cheap. But, this is a toy that is low priced, and my kids love it. Children aren't bothered about asthetics as long as it interests them. I've found another one, which is similar for £10 on Mothercare, but you have to pay more for delivery on Mothercare, and overall the toy is hardly any different. This toy arrived one day before its estimate to, so thats a plus!

Summary: Good, low priced toy that children love!

This toy has been a success with both of my children.

The toy encourages not only motor skills, but also speech and colour recognition.

In use, the buttons / switches are a little stiff and difficult to use. Certainly, neither of my children could successfully play with the toy unaided at eighteen months. What they did do at this age was push the lids with the animals back down when they were opened by an adult. They thought it was hilarious and were very quickly picking up animal names and noises.

As they became a bit older they have been able to operate it themselves. My two year old quite happily will spend ten minutes or so playing with this on her own now. It has been good for manual dexterity, and she is also shouting out the names of colours etc now as well.

The only slight point I would make is that some of the animals look mighty odd!! How many sheep have green faces?! Certainly not the ones where we live....

Overall it's a good toy which won't take up concentration and imagination for hours at a time but is fun for short bursts.

Recommended.

This is one of those simple classic toys that young children love. The chunky plastic frame has four different types of button you use to make the farm animals - a hen, a sheep, a horse and a cow, pop up. Some of the buttons are more tricky to activate than others as one is a simple push button, others must be slid or rotated to work.

The principle is very basic and can appear to be lacking in entertainment value to the untrained (adult) eye, but I have witnessed 2-3 year olds squabbling over this toy meant for much younger children.

This toy appears to have been recreated several times as there are lots of versions out there Early Learning Centre - Pop Up Jungle Animals, Playskool Busy Poppin' Pals (Colors May Vary). The (older?) one we were familiar with from our toddler group was better made, as this one seems clunky in comparison. The buttons are more difficult to activate and the pop up flaps are not as nicely formed. The noise made when the flaps pop open is also a little too loud . However it is fairly good value as it seems very robust, and apart from honing button manipulation skills, animals to name, there are numbers 1-4 on the top of the flaps and colours to learn.

This is brilliant for our 8 and a half month old baby girl. We make them pop up and act surprised and she laughs out loud and then rushes to put them all down, she has it down to a fine art now. She loves playing with it every day and is starting to make the animals pop up herself which she loves. If your baby is interested in the world then this is a great toy to have.

This is a really excellent toy; the only toy my boy will sit and play with for ages. Although he is just 10 months at the moment, he is quite happy to watch the animals pop up and he enjoys putting them down again. (we push the buttons to pop them up for him). It took him a short while to work out how to put them down, but the clicking action of them going down seems to be fun enough for him to enjoy doing it.

I agree with other reviewers that the buttons are quite stiff, so are beyond his capability at the moment, but i'm sure that once he gets older and stronger he will manage it (and the buttons themselves will get looser). This is fantastic value for money, quite robust, and I love the fact that there is no battery-operated annoying noises or lights anywhere!

We have been bought a couple of these switch/ button pop-up toys but this has been the most durable and long lasting. It's a firm favourite in the toy bin in our house and although it doesn't provide hours of non-stop activity, it's one that both of my children come back to time and time again.

Another feature I particularly like on this version is that the picture corresponds to a product you get from the animal, so the cow corresponds to milk etc. I felt this gave it a bit more longevity that similar versions too.

On the whole, great value for money and brilliant for children to practice their dexterity.
