Bought it for my 4 year old TV addict son who was completely disinterested in letters (unlike big sister, who could name half the alphabet by age 3!). He ignored it until I set a rule that he had to watch this week's letters (say, 3) before watching anything else, whenever TV goes on. Within two days he was happy with it and specifically asking for a particular 'episode', demanding the whole episode rather than just a few letters. If I leave the room, he joins in with sounding the letters.
I like the DVD because the letters are animated. Better than other products which show the letter then pictures which happen to start with / include that sound. When I show my son a plain letter, he can imagine the letter doing the animation. If he's stuck, I can remind him 'can you remember this one brushing it's teeth'. Soon he'll need the prompts less and less.
I agree it's a pity they chop and change between the letters rather than completing one before moving on to the next, but I think that's probably an adult complaint - I think children learn differently (not so linear as adults). Funnily, my son seemed to learn the double letters before many of the single ones - he especially liked 'ue'.
We've only used the DVD and poster - he's not interested in the book yet.

I bought this for my 4 year old son who is at nursery and just starting to work with letters. It was amazing how much he loved the DVD. He sat watching it again and again with the poster infront of him so he could see which letters they were talking about, and laughing at the animations. Highly recommended as a starter for any little one...

I bought this for my four year old when he started school in reception. It is brilliant. Not only does the book make it really easy to sound out and 'blend' the words, but the huge poster helps him recognise the phonemes. The DVD makes putting together what we have learned from the book so much easier, and he sounds out the letters in the same way as the presenter from the 'Fun With Phonics' TV programmes which were shown on CBeebies last year. I would totally recommend buying this pack, along with the other 2, its great value from Amazon for what you get.

Disappointing
One of the presenters on this DVD doesn't pronounce the sounds correctly. I have watched the first programme in which he pronounces 'a' (as in apple) as 'u' (as in up). Read more
