5.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant surprise, fun for kids of all ages 22 Sep 2012
By J. Gilhooly - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
This book is divided into 7 main sections : decorations, cards & wrapping, fun to bake, little treats & gifts, edible decorations, Christmas baking, and party food. There is some cross over between projects making them versatile. I like that about half or more of the crafts are relatively simple, quick and easy, like cinnamon stick decorations or orange tree decorations, yet I would not have thought of them all on my own, and preschoolers can still do many of the activities with only a little help. There are similarly some crafts with more complicated sewing or lacing for middle schoolers. There are some predictable things like popcorn garland and paper snowflakes. But agin, each craft has a nice simplicity. The recipes are a nice touch, with a great international flare in the treats. The party recipe section is probably the least useful for us as we are vegetarian and even the scones had ham and cheese. Each craft has a two page layout with great pictures. You could get this book from the library, but with its colorful pictures and variety of skill levels, I think it's worth owning to revisit each year. I wish there was more home made gifts, and a few projects will seem like too much work for decorating gifts ( like making little beaded hearts to hang from gifts). The gingerbread house example is very simplistic, among other crafts, and a few extra inset pictures with add on ideas would be neat, but it is a nice spring board for inspiration without overwhelming the less than organized parent. Templates for crafts included.
