Good product with minor drawbacks
on 16 January 2014
Having tested a variety of covers for the rear bench, I was looking for a solution that offers protection on all sides, rather than just the bench. A hammock seemed a good idea and the design of the coffee colored one by Fuloon was the closest fit to beige leather.
The printed side looks better than on the pictures, a positive surprise. The "underside" (more on this later) shows quite sturdy material. The fastenings are more simple, but not an issue.
The installation is largely uncomplicated, a manual is not needed. Note that one side is a bit longer than the other and will cover the rear bench more easily.
The Hammock is high enough to cover the rear bench up to the hat rest, as well as up to the upper end of front seats. The top of the front seats is not protected. The sides are less protected, at least in my saloon style car (Insignia) the length is not sufficient to cover the door up to the window. Naturally the headrests front and rear are also unprotected.
One drawback is that seemingly you're supposed to use the product inside out: If you use it like shown on the pictures, with the print being the seating area for the dogs, the zipper is on the inside and easily manipulated by the dogs. All fastenings are also on this "inside". This can be seen if you look closely at the product pictures. As the printed area offers more grip for the dogs than the dark one, I'm still assuming this is intended, but should probably be fixed if there's a new version to come.
The zippers, which allow dogs easy access on one side, seem too easy to open for dogs themselves. It might be worth it to fasten them additionally on the grip above the door with some additional clasps (not included). Of course this won't be an issue with calmer dogs.
The most important drawback for me is that there's no easy way to use seat belt-dog leashes as there is no opening for themes. I will probably try to create something manually, but this would compromise the protection of the rear bench somewhat and essentially mean that I'm cutting through the new product. A flap protected opening - as often seen in rear bench covers - would be a nice addition.
A good quality product with good looks and some drawbacks. I'd suggest it to dog owners looking for a rear bench transport solution if they're willing to look into the extra effort of securing the dog(s).
