This is a great book . I first encountered Curtis Turner in the writings of Brock Yates in Car and Driver Magazine in the mid-1960s . Brock Yates accounts of Curtis Turner quickly established him as a superhero who captured my imagination . This superb book by Robert Edelstein quickly rekindled all the excitment that the mention of Turner had once given me in my distant , teenage , years . This is a larger than life character who leaps from each page of this book . This was a racers racer , a true superstar . If you love motorsports you will delight in this book . I cannot recommend it highly enough .

Turner's Legacy 11 Sept. 2009
By Rapid reader - Published on Amazon.com

If you were a race car fan back in the '40s and '50s, Curtis Turner is no stranger to you. Having a rural Virginia background, similar to Turner's, this book took me back to my youth, to Saturday nights at Victory Stadium in Roanoke, VA and the dirt track days at Martinsville Speedway. For younger race fans, this book provides the history and background for how NASCAR was born and the rough and tough drivers who fed the newborn. A great read.

Curtis Turner: Bad boy of the NASCAR circuit.. 1 July 2013
By Preston Stevens Jr. - Published on Amazon.com

Every sport has a rascal-or should have, but Curtis Turner out did them all!
A bundle of energy and daring to put the likes of Jimmy Piersall and Ted Turner in the shade, his antics were beyond the pale. His racing buddies from the nineteen fifties, Frank Mundy, Tim Flock and Herb Thomas both loved him and feared him. Mundy at age ninety looking back pronounced Curtis the best driver in the history of NASCAR. This book tells it all. Well..........maybe not everything. Some things are better left unsaid!

Good reading learned a lot about the man and NASCAR .I believe he was a very good man and would have made more of a impact on the sport if he would have lived longer..
One of a kind 16 April 2015

Curtis was one of a kind, and this bio is brings him to life...a life sorely missed by fans, friends, and family. He was a giant personality and Mr Edelstein deserves credit for bringing us the story. It is humorous where it should be, factual, and well researched. The pathos is handled with dignity and without excuses. Well written, and it chronicles a great chapter in the history of Americana...the birth of NASCAR. Curtis was there, and you will be too when you read this book. It is not literature, but it is a very good bio....and FUN.
Not anyone like Curtis Turner around anymore 4 Feb. 2014

Not in these days of PR-manufactured look-alikes and robotrons. No, no...Curtis Turner was something and this title is a most worthy read. Product was accurately described, in a condition that was at least as good as advertised. Furthermore, it was well packaged and delivered pronto.
