this is the 7th book in Erin McCarthy's 'Fast Track' series. firstly,i'd like to say that this book could easily be read as a stand alone, more so than any of the others in my opinion.nevertheless, it was still a good installment to the series and there are interactions with characters from previous books.
i liked the characters in this book, though at times the romance seemed a tad forced.i can't say this is my favorite of the series as often it had a 'mills & Boon' feel to it, even the story-line was what you would find in those type of books.however, i must say that the love scenes were far steamier!(perhaps even more so than the others in this series).this book was also full of great one-liners that had me laughing several times throughout.
overall, it was a good fun read.nothing really dramatic or action packed,or even that emotionally engaging.what it did have was a steady pace,a mix of characters and great humor. not the best in the series, but still worth a go.
according to her website there is only going to be one more book in this series!!!the order so far is:
1. Flat-Out Sexy (2008)
2. Hard and Fast (2009)
3. Hot Finish (2010)
4. The Chase (2011)
5. Slow Ride (2011)
6. Jacked Up (2012)
7. Full Throttle (2013)

I have liked the Fast Track Series but I was disappointed with Full Throttle. Shawn Hamby inherited her grandfather's race track but with the stipulation that she had to be married. In order not to lose the track, she asks a man she just met, Rhett Ford, to marry her (in name only) if she paid him $100,000 and he stayed with her for a year. The temporary marriage changes when they start to have feelings for each other and great sex.

This book was so different from the rest of the Fast Track Series that I just kept reading, waiting for the story to begin. It didn't happen. There wasn't a plot to this book and what came across as 'good sex' between them was more like BDSM which I am not a fan of reading. It sure wasn't what I have come to expect from this series or author.

Full Throttle is the latest offering from Erin McCarthy in her Fast Track series. This series features strong women, determined men and is set within the racing world. This her seventh novel in the series takes the reader on a ride behind the scenes of this male dominated world.
Shawn Hamby has recently lost her grandfather who raised her when her parents broke up. He taught her all he knew about running his racing circuit and at thirty two all she dreams about is keeping it afloat. She's always been a bit of a tomboy and isn't afraid to work hard for what she wants but her world is about to come crashing down when she finds out the conditions in her grandfathers will. On a wild night out with friends at a local fetish club Shawn meets Rhett Ford, seven years her junior and her best friends brother in law. Fearing the complications and unsure about his obviously dominating nature Shawn backtracks quickly away from him but Rhett has other ideas. Tracking her down he tempts her as no other man has for a long time .Shawn's used to playing by her own rules and she takes him up on his offer of a drink. Whilst enjoying his company she has a crazy idea how to solve her problem over her grandfathers will and offers him a challenge. Rhett is determined to get to know this woman inside and out , both in and out of the bedroom and it looks as if the race is on!
Ok this is my first book by this author but that didn't detract in any way from this read. I don't feel its essential to have read this series in order to enjoy this book. Whilst I'm not a great fan of books set in the sporting world I found that this tale hardly featured the racing world at all. The action and story are set away from it and it's a completely wild story.

lacks cohesion 24 Jan. 2014

I have enjoyed Erin McCarthy's Fast Track series till this book. Somehow the characters don't gel and the racing element prevalent in the other books in this series got shoved aside. There seemed to be too much concentration on dominance and bondage sex scenes to make this book work rather than plot development. This plot seems contrived and Shawn's character is too weak for her to be supposedly a strong, decisive woman while Rhett came off as an arrogant, selfish jerk who described himself as nice and caring except in the bedroom. Found it difficult to relate to either character. Hope her next book improves over this one.

He's determined to ensure his ladies maximum satisfaction even if she's not sure what she wants. Be prepared for long slow loving from a very dominant man! I liked Shawn as she's a confident woman who deserves happiness and Rhett is written as a very loyal and straight talking character. This is an author who knows how to write and this sensuous romance was a very satisfying read. Sure to delight her fans and I enjoyed it from start to finish!

Face pace with steam 3 Dec. 2013
By Melody May - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Rating 4.5

For the past few days I have been reading Full Throttle by Erin McCarthy. I have been procrastinating on reading this story. Not because I didn't want to, but my TBR list is kind of out of control. Yet, I couldn't put this off any longer. Anyway, I really liked this book, which kind of surprised me, because the type of heroine in the story usually drives me nuts. However, it worked for the story. I haven't read any other of Erin McCarthy's Fast Track books, so I don't know if Shawn Hamby is different in the other books. Back to my thoughts.

Basically Full Throttle is a marriage of convenience story and reading the description you wouldn't see that. No, what you get is that Rhett Ford likes a little kink and is the brother-in-law to Shawn's best friend. However, Shawn needs a guy to marry to keep Hamby Speedway and Rhett is willing to go along with the plans.

I'm glad I got a chance to read Full Throttle and really enjoyed the book. I have to say it was pretty awesome. It kept me pretty captivated. I actually love the relationship between Shawn and Rhett even if it started out as a marriage of convenience. Though Shawn planned on getting out after the year, I love how Rhett decided he was willing to try to convince Shawn for the long haul. Overall, it's a fast pace book with some hot steamy scenes that I couldn't put down and look forward to reading other stories by Erin McCarthy. So, if you are looking for some steam, you might try Full Throttle.

The story line fell short. 17 Dec. 2013

The Fast Track Series has had winners and some just okay books. This book had real potential, but the author missed on a few things for me to rate it higher than a 3.5.
Let me start with what I thought the book had going for it: Great characters, as I liked both Rhett and Shawn. I remember when I first read about Rhett, that I thought he would make a good and interesting leading man and he did. I honestly did not remember Shawn from any of the earlier books. I enjoyed the scenes with Rhett's big family and it was fun to catch up on Eve and Nolan.
Where the book missed: The storyline seemed to be just taking off and then the book was over. It should have gone more into them as a couple and working on improving the Track. Also, it was very disappointing to hear they were inviting some of my past favorite characters to the wedding, like the Monroe brothers and yet nothing was even mentioned about them during the party. Plus, the sex scenes were too much for me. For the first time, I felt like I was ready, "Mommy Porn". McCarthy's novel always have hot love scenes, but this was just too weird, especially since Rhett never really would lose control and just enjoy himself.
With a few tweaks here and there, this book had the potential to be as good as the first book in the series, which still is my favorite.

SO disappointing 2 Jun. 2014

Full Throttle, Fast Track #7, by Erin McCarthy
Grade: D

“You make a man want to kiss you all night and then start again in the morning.”

Shawn Hamby’s whole life has been at her family’s race track with her grandparents and with them both passing on it’s up to her to keep the track running. When a stipulation in her grandfather’s will comes up Shawn has to find a groom fast or lose the track for good. When Rhett Ford walks into Shawn’s life she makes him an offer he can’t refuse and a few days later and a quickie marriage all her problems are solved. The more time Shawn spends with Rhett the more she starts to actually like him and hope that maybe she can turn her fake marriage into a real one.

Rhett Ford knows exactly what he wants in a woman and he knows that woman is Shawn Hamby. Who cares that she’s seven years older than him, not Rhett and he jumps at the chance to marry her and get her into his bed for a year. Shawn blows Rhett away when she submits to his dominant side and he will stop at nothing to keep the one woman who can truly make him happy both in bed and out of it. Convincing Shawn that he’s in this for real will be tough but Rhett is not giving up with a fight.

Let me start by saying that I love this series and was so happy to learn that it was going to continue but Rhett and Shawn might have killed it for me. I had so many problems with everything that takes place and I feel like I spent the majority of the time going “huh?”. The rest of this review will contain spoilers and I’m sorry about that but it’s the only way to talk about the grade I’m giving. As a big fan of the Fast Track series this was a big, big disappointment.

To start we meet Shawn who has to get married according to her grandfather’s will or she can’t inherit the family track that she has been running for years. This was my first big issue. What year is it that women have to get married to inherit something??? Why didn’t she just fight it since it’s a stupid and sexist stipulation and the rest of the family didn’t want the track? This just made me think her grandfather was an ass. Second Shawn offers to pay Rhett $100,000 to marry her for a year but the track is in financial crisis and she’s just keeping it alive. So she has 100 grand to give a guy instead of putting that into her business. This doesn’t make any sense!!!

After all this talk about the track halfway through the book it just disappears. There was all this talk about the track struggling and then it all goes away because Rhett is giving Shawn multiple orgasms. Rhett is a really great guy and besides being uber dominant in the bedroom he makes up for it by being the most amazing husband ever. Shawn on the other hand is an idiot who does nothing but sabotage herself and a chance at happiness. I found her to be horrible and she had me rolling my eyes for three hundred pages.

I have no idea why I kept reading this book and honestly wanted to DNF it more than once. I kept hoping it would get better since I love the series so much but it was a big fail. I’m hoping the next book is better and makes more sense than this one. If anyone else reads it and figures out why some of these things occurred please let me know.
