About the Author

Born in Rathangan, County Kildare, Laverty was educated at the Brigidine Convent, Carlow, where she studied teacher-training. She acted as governess and later secretary to Princess Bibesco in Spain. She became a foreign correspondent in Madrid. She returned to Ireland in 1928 and worked in Dublin as a journalist and broadcaster. She was a talented novelist and playwright, her most famous novel, Never, No More. Her work as food journalist led to the publication of Full & Plenty by Anvil Press in 1960.

I GOT THIS BOOK FOR NOSTALGIC REASONS BUT AS IT HAPPENS I ACTUALLY TOOK UP BAKING AS A RESULT AWSOME.

Maura Laverty was not just great cookery writer - she was a first rate novelist and short story writer. When I was a chile I enjoyed reading the short stories that presaged every section in Full & Plenty. Unfortunately, Mercier Press decided to eliminate all but one of these very well written stories - reducing them to a brief blurb at the beginning of the chapter. Having bought this book for a friend who specifically wanted the short stories I was deeply disappointed.

So Mercier Press, the one star is for you, not for Maura Laverty - I am off to look for another edition

i have wanted this book for sometime, and iam very pleased with it.the classic irish recipes are very clear and easy to use. i ordered it and it came very quickly.iam very happy with it.
