2nd Edition Now Available!

Brand new foreword by noted author Ron Rozelle
New cover by artist Brian Fajardo
A new copy edit by David Gatewood, editor for Hugh Howey.
New scenes, and two sneak peek chapters from the second book in the series, Hastrom City - coming soon!

This heroic space opera blends elements of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. Set in a reality not unlike our own, Fulcrum tells the tale of Letho Ferron, one of many citizens living out a mundane existence aboard a colonization/exploration vessel known as the Centennial Fulcrum.

It is life as usual for Letho Ferron until an encounter with Fulcrum law enforcement agents forces him into exile within the bowels of the ship, where he finds respite among a mysterious subservient race known as the slave bears. It is there that Letho begins to uncover the truth about the Fulcrum, the slave bears, and his own identity. When a group of terrifying marauders attack the ship, Letho is forced to decide: Will he remain a misfit, rejected by his own people? Or will he take a stand and lead both races to freedom?

It was a quick, fun read, but had enough depth to keep me interested. Contains some fresh, imaginative ideas - Paul R. Meiller

About the Author

My name is Doug Rickaway and I am an aspiring author from Texas. I enjoy consuming art in many forms and in many forms: books, movies, music, and video games. Some of my favorite authors are Stephen King, Neil Gaiman, Hugh Howey, the two guys with the initials "R.R.", Robert Heinlein, etc. By trade I am a classically trained double bass player (my fellow Texans know it as a "bull fiddle") and an orchestra director at the high school in my community. I help students learn to play violin, viola, cello, bass, and harp. When I am not teaching I try to find time to write and hang out with my beautiful wife and five year old daughter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not my normal read but... 17 July 2013
By Dantes - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I was turned onto this by a friend. It isn't my normal genre of books, so I was a little skeptical (more of a swords than lasers fantasy reader). However, this book went far beyond my expectations. It is hard to describe the genre as even though it has a sci-fi setting, there is a deeply integrated traditional fantasy feel. I read it in 3 sittings (work and life get in the way). The book was easy to read, the characters were well developed and the story line was compelling. It is obviously a part one in a series, but the author did and excellent job setting the stage. Excellent read, well written, and I look forward to the rest of the series. I would suggest to a friend.

Update: The author contacted me to thank me for taking the time to read and write a review. Class act.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Read! 12 July 2013
By Paul R Meiller - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick, fun read, but had enough depth to keep me interested. Contains some fresh, imaginative ideas. I especially liked the interplay between the three different races. The author does a good job building the tension in the first part of the book. Ended rather abruptly, but that makes sense if it's part of a planned series. Recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Very Imaginative Sci-Fi Story With An Unexpected Twist! 25 July 2013
By Michael D. Fisher - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was completely taken in by this book. I'd not read or heard of the author, but one day while out of familiar books, tripped over this book on Amazon.

Luckiest day in a long time.

I loved the plot, the conversations, the tech and the quite unexpected twist in this book. The author writes a HELL of a story and I can't wait until the sequel.

BUY THIS BOOK.

Great job, Doug!

I am a BIG fan of the sci-fi genre and I immediately was hooked on this book from the first page! It is so well written and conceived that you are immersed in this fantasy world immediately and it never lets go! I would recommend this novel to anyone looking for a new great adventure . . . you will not want to put it down!
