FUJIFILM

X Series quality in its smallest size yet

The pocket-sized XQ1 features a newly developed F1.8 4x zoom lens and a 2/3-inch X-Trans* CMOS II sensor. The new X Series premium compact camera, offers excellent image quality and a high speed shooting response time thanks to the high performance EXR Processor II. This means the XQ1's sensor size approximately doubles** those in ordinary compact digital cameras and is able to deliver AF speed at 0.06 seconds***.

The pocket-sized XQ1
The pocket-sized XQ1

It may be ultra-small but there is no compromise on performance or image quality. Its elegant design and classy finish really makes the XQ1 stand out. It is available in a stylish Black or Silver, bringing an essential stamp of luxury and making it the perfect premium compact for discerning users.

X Series image quality

The 2/3-inch X-Trans CMOS II 12 megapixel sensor controls moiré and false colour generation without need for an Optical Low Pass Filter. The EXR Processor II also more than doubles**** the previous processing speed meaning noise is controlled and image clarity maintained. The user will find that greens, blues, and skin tones are all beautifully reproduced. Sensitivity ranges from ISO 100 to ISO 12800 so you can take natural and clear images even in low light. The bright F1.8 aperture gives the background a natural bokeh effect for a beautiful contrast with the main subject. Image quality is further enhanced by the XQ1's Lens Modulation Optimiser, correcting even marginal optical defects and diffractions caused when the lens aperture is narrowed. This maximises the resolving power of the lens for edge-to-edge image clarity, 3-stop****** optical image stabilisation is extremely useful when using the camera in low light conditions.

Stunning good looks

A quality performance is matched by the XQ1's luxury looks and first class handling. Settings ranging from Advanced Filters to high level manual focusing, aperture, and shutter speed can all be changed by turning the manual control ring fitted around the lens, avoiding the need to go into the menu.

Intelligent flash providing the right lighting in all settings

The built-in Super Intelligent Flash accurately controls the amount of light for the shooting situation. For example, natural-looking indoor portraits, macro subjects, or food images can all be taken with over-exposure carefully controlled. Also strong backlit subjects, such as faces, will be beautifully and naturally illuminated bringing out all the detail you want from the shadows.

Full HD Movie recording

Movies can be filmed in Full HD at 60fps and the dedicated image stabilisation function helps keep things smooth when shooting handheld. If you want to explore the movie director in you, then try out the Film Simulation Modes to give your creativity a distinctive look.

Pictures were very good, but about 1 in 10 were way out of focus. Initially thought it was operator error, but took more pictures ensuring camera confirmed focus lock before fully pressing shutter and found repeated out of focus pictures.
Looked online for anyone having same problem, or a solution, and didn't find any. [There were one or two reports of camera having difficulty focusing, but my issues was different in that the camera confirmed focus, but the picture was out of focus].
I sent the camera back for refund in frustration, but am regretting not asking for a replacement as it was hopefully a one off fault, and the in focus pictures were very good.

This camera has amazing performance for a compact. The shutter lag is almost imperceptible, and the tracking autofocus copes with a running toddler most of the time. If it doesn't, it's ready to try again immediately. Comparing it to the Olympus XZ-1 I'm replacing, the lens is a little less flexible, and there are basically no accessories. Battery life might prove an issue and it doesn't come with an external charger. But again, it's so quick. If you are frustrated trying to capture the action with your existing compact, this is probably the solution.

Not used it enough my self but my initial impression is it's a very capable camera, producing lovely jpeg files.
It was bought for my wife to take on holiday ect. The camera when used in full auto mode is just perfect for her and the advanced side of the camera will be used by my self, being a long term user of SLR,s I will be able to make use of the raw capabilities when out walking ( do not always want heavy gear to lug around ) and with the £50 money back from Fuji you can't go wrong for the price.

It's a great camera, I can't compare it to the 2 similar ones - Sony RX100 and Canon s120 - as I haven't used them. What I can say is that it's compact enough to slip into a pocket and takes very very good photos. I'm not too sure about the "Auto" feature, I started by using that and some of the photos were a little ropey, but once I switched to the other functions using the camera became more fun and the shots were much better quality. So, if you want a camera that takes perfect automatic shots every time, this may not be for you. But, if you want a camera that helps you select the shots you need then I recommend this. The wifi connection is excellent too, I particularly love the instant wireless connection to my PC to download photos really quickly without trying to find a usb cable! Regarding battery life, it seems fine to me - had the camera a month now and only charged it once.
