5.0 out of 5 stars Great case. 16 Feb 2014

I have an xm-1 and this case, although very expensive, does transform the cameras handling. The ability to get access to the battery/card compartment without removing the case makes it worth the extra cash. The quality of leather is very nice.

It is as states, Premium leather and looks and feel good, the only problem I have with it is, I have to take it off each time, to be able to access the USB port. That however does not mean I do not like it!

4.0 out of 5 stars good quality, but not well thought-out 29 Sep 2013

I got this for my XM1 because I wanted a more confident grip. The leather case gives that, and it's nice that you don't have to remove the case to change the battery or SD card, and the tripod screw is nicely recessed so it doesn't add size.

But, the leather that wraps around the right side at the rear is not an exact fit so it adds some bulk, and--most importantly--it interferes with the 4-way controller: the right button: WB. I can still get to the button, but it's not convenient. The case should not come in so far towards the buttons.

And, even though it's possible to remove the SD card through the bottom of the case, I can't fit my fingers in well enough to grip the card. I have to use the spring-loading mechanism to eject the card. Since it is difficult to judge just how far the card is going to spring out, sometimes it pops up so quickly I can't catch it. Not good.

I use the case because it is better than nothing, but a well-designed 3rd party case would have a good chance of succeeding against this one.

I upgraded my review to 4 stars because it's easy enough to draw out the SD card with my fingernail, so that's not a problem now. And I have gotten accustomed to using the WB button without having the case interfering. All in all, having a case is a good way to protect the body and have a better grip without adding too much bulk, so I'm glad I have it.
4.0 out of 5 stars Fuji XM-1 camera half case. 16 Feb 2014

Good quality half camera case. Provides limited protection from being bumped, dropped. While not as good as a full case the half case provides a good balance between convenience / protection.
5.0 out of 5 stars Fuji X-M1 made for this case (and vice-versa) 12 Jan 2014

This is the one you want.

The feel of the stock X-M1 gives you the sense that the engineers were focused on size/weight reduction rather than secure grip in the human hand. I knew it needed some grip enhancement.

First I contemplated a less-expensive PU-leather case, but these feature awkward tripod fittings and the need to remove the case to change battery/card. And some of them look like they might interfere with the operation of the tilting LCD. Then I contemplated a few of the more-expensive aftermarket leather cases with an 'escape hatch' for batteries, etc..., but the leather seemed too thin to actually enhance the grip of the camera significantly. Ultimately, I decided that the OEM offering from Fuji looked just right.

I'm so glad I did. Despite the concerns raised by another reviewer, this case does not in any way interfere with the operation of camera buttons on the X-M1. Either they received a defective case or they are using it on the wrong model of camera. Nor does it complicate extracting the battery or memory card in any way.

The leather is, as they suggested, of superior quality and it greatly enhances the handholding experience of the camera. Prior to putting this on, I never understood the location of the thumb-rest on the camera. Mine naturally gravitated towards the top of the LCD next to the hot-shoe. Now that I have installed this case, my thumb comfortably rests where Fuji wanted it do. One-handed shots are now very comfortable with the lighter lenses. With my heaver zoom it is still possible, though a bit of a strain. Regardless, it makes me want to hold your camera more, and that is almost priceless.

BONUS! It isn't mentioned anywhere, but mine also came with a genuine leather camera strap to replace the nylon strap that came with the original camera. It is of much better quality than the original, and I definitely plan on keeping it on the camera.
