5.0 out of 5 stars Just terrific, for what it is. 19 May 2014

This is a wonderful device, but you have to appreciate it for its unique merits – this is not an ultra hi-resolution printer, and the prints are only the size of a business card; but they're genuine instant photographs, developing over the course of a minute or so in front of your eyes.

The device itself is of moderate size, think of it like a chubby portable CD player – it's pocketable in a roomy jacket, will happily live in a bag. It's pretty solid, equivalent to one of the regular Instax cameras; I'm happy to stuff it in my camera bag along with my other gear.

Loading it is a doddle, and it runs off a couple of CR2 batteries that come with it – they're good for 100 prints apparently, I plan to buy a second set and stash them in my bag ahead of time. Film comes in packs of 10 prints, a dab of the power button shows you how many are left in the device.

Using it is relatively simple: your phone or tablet connects to it over wifi, the device broadcasts an SSID and you join with it like you would any wireless hotspot – the app to control it is free from the App Store and has a simple interface that gets the job done.

Printing takes about 15 seconds, I've been sending over 4-5mb files previously transferred to my iPad from my camera – the print itself then develops over the next minute or so.

The image quality is great for what it is: I've printed some colour and B&W shots and both are more than acceptable for an instant photo.

So look, it really won't rival anything you can get from a supermarket instant print service in colour or sharpness and if you go in with that expectation you'll likely be disappointed – if you want that level of quality in a portable device, a Canon Selphy is probably the only device for you.

But if you want charm, if you want a little theatre and immediacy in your photography that creates endearingly real photos you can hand around in the moment, there's nothing like it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Handy 24 Jun 2014

Put simply, this is this generation's Polaroid system and it's very well executed indeed.
As so many of us carry smartphones, Fujifilm have come out with a great way to turn those pictures into physical prints and very fast, too. Just connect via Wi-Fi and using the application you can print photos.

Physically, the unit is quite fat-feeling, so it's not likely to slip into your pocket. But if you have a little space in your rucksack or handbag, it should be fine. It comes with batteries that should be sufficient for 100 prints when fully charged.

So, is it any good?
The prints are of decent quality, but not incredible; if you develop your photos or use a development service in Boots or a similar option, chances are they'll be better. This though is instant and works in the moment you want it, not when you next have time to go to the shops. The key thing to remember is that the pictures it prints are the size of a business card, so these are more throwaway fun prints than the kind you'll want to frame and keep forever.

The app (I use Android devices, so can't try out the iOS version) is fine and works well, so if this is the sort of thing you think would work for a future event, I'd say grab one.

I deducted one star primarily because I think something like this should be just under £100, really, to be good value, given its functionality. Additionally, I would have loved to add this to Google Cloud Print as a printer (which would mean I could send files to it from many apps in the latest version of Android) but don't think it can be done.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit gimmicky and image quality isn't great 17 July 2014

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I wasn't that impressed with this product. I thought the overall image quality was poor and I really expected more from the printer. I tried a few pictures and they were all duller than I would have expected. I didn't expect a masterpiece but I still wanted a picture that looked nice. They were dull and unremarkable and look like they are still in the process of developing days after I printed them! The image itself is quite small and there is a large border around it, although you can have different templates which people might like playing around with.

The printer is a nice size, you could carry it easily in a bag if you wanted to take it with you. It is battery powered and connects to your phone using wifi so you don't need to worry about wires and cables . It is relatively easy to use, you just install a free app and then follow the instructions to print your picture. It can also print from instagram (although I haven't tried this) which is a nice feature. Kids might enjoy using it, but it is quite expensive.

I have used two other similar printers (the Polaroid Pogo and the Photocube compact photo printer) and they both produced far better results. The Polaroid Pogo is probably most similar to this printer and although it is a few years old now (and I am not sure if you can still buy them new) it produces better results and was a lot cheaper (about £40 in summer 2012).

Overall I think the printer is a bit of a gimmick and something that would be used a few times then put in a drawer and forgotten about. I have given it 3 out of 5 stars.

Pros
- easy to use
- small, compact and portable
- battery powered and wireless allowing use when out and about
- has some fun templates and some people will enjoy playing with

Cons
- expensive
- image quality isn't great, colours are dull
