Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The Frye Company is the oldest continuously operated shoe company in the United States. Founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a well-to-do shoemaker from England, and family-run until 1945, Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers on both sides of America's Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-American war, and by Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. When home-steadying drew adventurous New England families to the West during the mid and late 1800's many of the pioneers wore Frye Boots for the long journey. Today Frye remains true to its roots with its line of heritage boots, but continues to innovate as it introduces chic new handbags, pumps, and sandals to its collection.

Unreal 30 April 2011
By Swan - Published on Amazon.com
I'm not one to write reviews (positive or negative) unless I feel very strongly about something. That said, these are without a doubt the best boots I've ever owned. From the moment I took them out of the box and put them on my feet, they felt like an old comfortable pair of shoes worn for years. I ordered 10.5 which is my norm and they fit perfect.
These boots look great, feel great, and are worth every penny.

Great boots 18 Jan 2009
By Michael Matthies - Published on Amazon.com
These boots are comfortable right out of the box. The leather is so soft and nice that it feels like they were bought used and broken in. The price was unbeatable.
The fit is about a half size smaller than I normally wear though.

FRYE Men's Heath Outside Zip - Maple 24 Dec 2008

First off, the "Maple" version of this boot differs from the black and dark brown versions - it is "regular" leather instead of suede, which I prefer, so this review may not be applicable to those boots.

That being said, this is a solidly constructed boot that looks great. As you can see from the product images the sole is leather and not rubber; you'll definitely want to use these for fashion only, which is fine because, again, they look great; the outside zip shouldn't be an issue, unless you wear your clothes in a way that shows off the whole of the boot, which is a deeper issue all its own. Anyway, in case its a concern, chicks seem to dig these, and they're spiffy enough for light business casual, as long as you dress accordingly i.e. no bolo ties and the like.

They're pretty comfortable - standard break in rules apply here. The most comfortable boot I've ever owned is the FRYE Rogan sheepskin boot, which I HIGHLY recommend, but these are nice too, and will help me lower the mileage I clock in the Rogans. Not as versatile, but a great pair of boots to wear out and about. Great product at a FANTASTIC Amazon price - snagged for <85 shipped - so go ahead and treat yourself before they're gone!

Love my new Frye Boots 3 Feb 2014
By Julie M. Noyes - Published on Amazon.com

First off - I am a woman with big feet... hence buying the men's Frye boots. One problem I have (that is my fault after reading other reviews) is that I should have sized down a half size. The boots are a little loose in the heel and a bit of sizing down would have helped. However, I live in Vermont so now I can wear nice thick socks with these bad boys and they feel great.
My other issue is that I have had the boots for a couple weeks and during the first two wearings I'm already getting a large number of scuffs on the leather. I think this may be because the leather is a bit soft, but I'm not loving this. However, I believe that my Frye boots will keep getting better looking with age.
Otherwise, the boots feel good without a breaking in period so common with boots of this kind. The side zipper seemed a bit strange on the outside of the boot, but for most men this will not be an issue (as I doubt a lot of you are wearing them with dresses like me). However, I have grown to like the look of it and it makes getting in and out of the boot so much easier.
All in all, a fantastic purchase of a good quality pair of boots from a company that still makes most of it's product in the USA.

Nice Boots 22 Sep 2012

Colour Name: MapleSize Name: 10 UK D Verified Purchase
Having owned Frye boots before I was not hesitant to buy these. A few Observations: I ordered the Maple size 11 medium width. Maple is really just a dark brown, wich was fine and what I wanted. As other reviewers have mentioned, they seem to run 1/2 size large. I wear a 10 1/2 and ordered an 11, they fit very well. The width was true to medium. They do have a leather sole and I noticed can be a bit slippery on carpet, but not a serious issue. Also keep in mind they are "outside zip." I knew this before ordering but do not understand why. I have owned zip boots of various types, tactical and work boots and they always were inside zip. I think because that way the zipper is hidden from view (for the most part) and when you sit down to take them off, I cross my leg over the other leg and that way the inside zipper is easy to access, not possible with outside zip. Not sure why Frye designed them that way. Inspecting them I noticed "made in Mexico" on the inside. Nothing wrong with that, just an FYI. Overall, they are well made, comfortable, will need very little breaking in and I am satisfied.
