Product Description

Product Description

This title is a follow up to the best-selling "Frozen in Time" (2006). It offers a new look at the latest climatology theories and the effect on our weather patterns. It includes latest harsh winters of 2009/10 and 2010/11 - bringing content right up to date. It explores reasons for harsh winters in UK and weather patterns. It reports on the latest climatology theories to explain climate change. It provides a look back in time to 'The Year of No Summer', 'The Famine Winter' and the years when 'Frost Fairs' were held on the frozen Thames. It presents the incredible stories of the three worst winters of the twentieth century (1947, 1963, and 1979). It is full of extraordinary human stories, by turns amusing, inspiring and astonishing.

About the Author

Ian McCaskill joined the Met Office in 1961 and became a member of the BBC's forecasting team in October 1978. Apart from a break between 1983 and 1985, he stayed at the BBC until his retirement from the Met Office in 1998. He is a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society. As a TV weatherman, Ian was hugely popular for his cheery, sometimes eccentric and always entertaining style. Since retiring from regular weather forecasting duties, he has been a guest on numerous TV programmes including Materchef, Style Challenge and Fit Club. His distinctive style has made him the most imitated TV weather forecaster, culminating in the ultimate accolade - his own Spitting Image puppet. Paul Hudson, one of BBC Look North's most popular presenters and famous for his cheerful presenting style and studio banter, explains the implications of global warming and its direct relation to severe weather conditions. He's also the BBC's environmental and climate change correspondent and gives talks on the subject to local organisations and schools.

1.0 out of 5 stars Frozen Britain, 8 Nov 2011
This review is from: Frozen Britain (Paperback)
I share the same view as the previous reviewer - the first 26 pages could have written as a newspaper article.I dug out my copy of Frozen in Time and was amazed and annoyed to find I had bought virtually the same book
How can the authors justify adding so few pages of new material and then passing it off as a new book?

I recommend that if you own Frozen In Time do not purchase Frozen Britain as it is exactly the same apart from the first 26 pages!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very prompt delivery, 3 Dec 2011
This review is from: Frozen Britain (Paperback)
The product came well before the quoted delivery date. Packaging ensured the book arrived in pristine condition. The one thing I love about Amazon more than anything is that books arrive unsoiled, unlike in book shops where people thumb through them.
