Product Description

RIDMARK ARBAN is the Gray Knight, outcast and exiled from the High King's realm. Yet he alone sees the danger of the terrible Frostborn, the creatures that will sheathe the world in ice and quench all life.

But none of the lords of the realm believe his warnings.

And his enemies want him dead...and the secret allies of the Frostborn wish to silence him forever.

As old foes and new enemies close around him, Ridmark must fight for his life.

Or else the Frostborn will return, bringing eternal ice and darkness with them.

Standing over six feet tall, Jonathan Moeller has the piercing blue eyes of a Conan of Cimmeria, the bronze-colored hair a Visigothic warrior-king, and the stern visage of a captain of men, none of which are useful in his career as a computer repairman, alas.

He has written the DEMONSOULED series of sword-and-sorcery novels, and continues to write THE GHOSTS sequence about assassin and spy Caina Amalas, the COMPUTER BEGINNER'S GUIDE series of computer books, and numerous other works.

2.0 out of 5 stars Passable but unoriginal 13 Jun 2014

The first thing I noticed about this book is the terrible grammar and spelling. The lack of proper proof read, or indeed any proof reading is immediately apparent. The errors are so blatant and obvious that all it would have taken is one read through by a friend or colleague to flag up 90% of them. This whole series has suffered from a lack of proof reading, but it has become more noticeable to the point of being blatant as the series has gone on. It is a fairly common fault of authors who publish in ebook only and seem to think its fine to throw the baby out with the bathwater. I'd hoped this would be better, as Moeller has previously published in paperback and one would hope he may have learned the advantage of an proof reader after writing so many books.

This book is probably the weakest of the series, it is essentially pointless to the wider plot and is almost entirely unnecessarily padding of the series. There isn't anything particularly special about the writing and the setting isn't particularly original, including as it does all the usual fantasy tropes (dwarves, elves, orcs, tortured hero etc). The combat is very disappointing, giving little to no detail of the fights, and essentially boiling down to 'the hero is so awesome he kills everyone without a scratch'. (Similar to the Sparhawk or Belgarion novels if you are familiar with David Eddings work, though with inferior writing.)

I've read the whole series to this point, and feel this is a fair reflection of the whole series, not just this book.

More Frostborn (in much the same way as I have stated in other Frostborn reviews).

Brilliant as usual, the only problem being it's over way too soon and now I've got to wait until autumn to read the next one. Do yourself a favour and buy, read and love this book.
