4.0 out of 5 stars Great book 16 Feb 2005
Format:Paperback
This stand alone book is a really good read. The main character, Grigori Nicolau is a tortured soul who has managed to keep it together through 700 years of victimization from Frostwing. The author has gone for a 'not telling until the end' structure which makes compulsive reading. Its one of those books where you miss the two main characters when you've finished reading it, which is always a good sign. By Fantasy standards its a small book. I think its better like this because the author has cut out a lot of the pointless jibber jabbering that you get with a lot of fantasy/fiction books. This takes out the annoying need to speed read and skip pages to find the meat within the story. Satisfying.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting story of magic in the real world 14 Dec 2000
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
A well written story of a man who is haunted by a ghost for some 700 years, but is the ghost his enemy or himself? or both? Very enjoyable mix of magic and the real world, combined with a bit of history and some romance (there always has to be one...).

4.0 out of 5 stars Awsome! 15 Feb 2005
By C. Prunier - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I got turned on to Knaak when I picked up a copy of firedrake. (The first of his marvelous dragonhelm series.) This book changed my mind about reading modern fantasy novels. Just a heads up though, if you're reading the dragonrealm series disreguard amazons listing this as one cause it isn't. the last is "The Horse King". but this is still an exellent read!
4.0 out of 5 stars Modern Dark Fantasy: Good Stuff 17 Nov 2002
By David M. Mayeux - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
_Frostwing_ introduced me into the world of modern dark fantasy, a place i have happily been trapped in ever since. Knaak from page one drops you right into his world of sorcerors, vicious memory stealing gargoyles, and a line of descendants of a mad wizard.
Grigori Nicolau is our main character, a man haunted by Frostwing, a gargoyle that continually steals bits of Nicolau's memories bit by bit each night, only leaving him with pieces so unrellated that Nicolau can never put them together. Nicolau discovers however that finally he can find out who is behind Frostwing's power, what his past is, and what the future might hold for him.
If you're looking for a good modern fantasy, or want to introduce yourself to the genre Richard Knaak's _Frostwing_ is certainly a book worth picking up.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great book! 30 May 2011
By Steve R. Pierson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I read this book when it first came out, 15 years ago. I reread it again recently and I am still blown away! I am very suprised that Frostwing is not more popular. Another Knaak favorite of mine is Dutchman. Both are simple stories, told well, that leave a lasting impression.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read 31 Dec 2009
By J. Reynolds - Published on Amazon.com

I couldn't disagree more with the 1 star reviews of this book. This is about the 5th book that I have read by this author, and I have found them all to be well-written and captivating. Simply put: This is definitely worth reading, if you enjoy the sci-fi/fantasy genre.
5.0 out of 5 stars Original 16 April 2001
By Richard I Hart III - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
One of the first fantasy books I ever read, Mr. Knaak quickly became one of my favorite authors. Of all his books I've read, and those I have not are of the Forgotten Realms, this is one of my most treasured. Contrary to some previous reviews, I believe it is fantastically written, entertaining, and overall a great story.
