This is a very readable book, written in an engaging style by Geoffrey Higgs, who has an interesting story to tell; from training with the Fleet Air Arm during the final months of WWII, to the transition to jets and into the era of supersonic military aircraft, taking in much of the world in the process. The book is well illustrated with (presumably) the author's own photographs, which are suitably captioned and add depth and a human face to many elements of his career.

In the preface, Mr Higgs states that he initially started writing this book as simply something for his family to read and enjoy; I am grateful that we have all been given that opportunity as well.

Brilliant, well written by a man who knew his job and was an expert at it. This book is a must for aviation and especially ex Fleet Air Arm enthusiasts. I have read it twice and will read it again.
I am an ex FAA man, (not a pilot.) I was flight deck crew on carriers during the 1960's when Cdr Higgs was flying therefore I can relate to a lot of his experiences from being ex flight deck. It is interesting and informative, yet not like some recollections I have read which can become to kind of 'show off.' As said, it is informative and he does let you know what it must have been like to fly the aircraft he flew with such skill, but it certainly does not go over the top.
I highly recommend this book as a most interesting and a damn good read.

I am really into this kind of Cold War book and buy many of them. This is an excellent book, however, I realised after purchasing it that I already have the hardbacl version. I do wish publishers wouldn't dress same books up with different covers, covers are inviting and do sell the book but they also trick people on this way. So a criticism of the publishers methods not the Author or Amazon!

Really really interesting read about naval aviation and a career path in the RN in the 1950s onwards to the 70s. Well written and informative. Highly recommended.
