3.0 out of 5 stars Book Review 28 July 2012
By Mr. S. C. Warburton VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have used this wee book to plan another visit to Yosemite and the Kings Canyon. It is full of detail and the maps are good (but in black and white -yuch!). You need a (coloured) map to plan you itinery and get your cabins booked. The book scores highly of places to go, what to plan during your limited time. It strongly endorses the use of shuttle buses -oh! and walking -trying to leave your car parked until you need to leave the park again.
I certainly would not want to go to Yosemite Village in the height of summer with wall-to-wall visitors and people. I have used this guide book and a highlight pen to come up with daily itineries. But I am not a total nerd (well, I hope not), in that there is some flexibility in what we can do on any day. I have used the book to identify places in the park that we have not been to during out last 3 visits -which we can reach by shuttle..wherevever possible. I think this book makes a good companion to "The Complete Guidebook to Yosemite" by Steven Medley. If I was pushed to take only one of these 2 books with me?..well Medley is the one I would take

5.0 out of 5 stars So worth the purchase for a successful trip to these amazing parks! 8 July 2012
By MEW - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I'm so glad I got this book before going to these parks! It not only helped in planning our trip in terms of what we wanted to do and see in each park and how much time would be needed for all we wanted to do, but it was also a constant resource for us while we were in the parks! I made sure to pack it in my back pack each day we were there. It's truly a comprehensive guide that's easy to follow. Not only did we use it for the regular info like lodging, where to eat inside or outside the parks, top attractions, hikes, and so forth, but we also found ourselves using it to help determine what wildlife we saw (what we thought looked like a coyote was really a gray fox according to the descriptions in the book), finding the less publicized views and activites in these parks, history, and so much more! I'm especially glad we had it for Yosemite, where there is so much to see and do! These parks are so amazing and this guide helped us to prioritize our to-do list and make the most of our time there!

3.0 out of 5 stars Helpful Guide 1 Jan 2013
By Gary - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I found this guide to be helpful but would prefer higher quality photos and maps. All of the information required is probably here, but after using higher quality guides for other national parks this was disappointing. There are few guides for Sequoia and Kings Canyon. It seems to require a lot of reading and digging to find what I needed compared to others in the past from Frommers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Travel Guide 4 July 2012
By C. Brandt - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Well, I'm biased in favor of Frommers anyway but this book is really helpful when planning a trip. One thing I like about this book is that it also tells you where to NOT go. For instance, it tells you which campsites may be very hot in the summer months, etc. This is also easy to read with not a ton of details to bog down the reading.
