No use without an index. 27 Aug. 2013

I bought this guide book in a kindle edition. Sounded like a good idea - didn't have to carry around a book - but what you want in a guide book is the ability to look something up quickly using an alphabetical index. This was pretty useless.
The Local Says No Good 8 Dec. 2014

So I'll start by letting you know that I'm from NY, specifically Rochester, though I've lived in the FInger Lakes too, and have spent time in Buffalo, NYC, ADX, and Binghamton. I bought this book because I'd like to visit some areas of the State that I haven't been to...

Upon reading this book at length, I would NOT recommend this book. Based on what was written for Rochester and most of the Finger Lakes, I can only assume that businesses paid to be in it because as a local I would recommend 1/10 of the places listed. The book is also very unappealing... newspapery-feeling paper, no exciting pictures (or color for that matter), and it's kind of hard to follow.

If it helps you, great! But if you're looking for a locals opinion, I wouldn't suggest this, unless it were free?

(2-star because it does include accurate information)
excellent book. great recommendations! 28 July 2013

Very useful on our road trip to Niagara falls area, finger lakes, Albany and Catskills. The only neg I can think of is that the maps are not detailed enough, so get a map to accompany the book or use your smartphone for maps...

Knowing nothing about New York State, the book was a wealth of information and steered me to where I needed to go, including accommodation, restaurants and what to see.

We took this guide along on our driving vacation through upstate N.Y. This is a very handy take-along item and I would highly recommend it as a good general resource.
