Another very good New York travel guide that highlights all the usual must sees with it's own splattering of places that are not in every other guide. In fairness most of the guides cover the same things and just present it in their own way. This isn't a bad thing and I like the lay out of Frommers latest guide.
Some nice little snippets on the best place to get burgers, pizza or go for a drink etc

To stray from the topic, slightly, the cover of this 2012 New York City guide is part of the very iconic Chrysler building's gargoyles that were modelled after Chrysler automobile products like the hood ornaments of the Plymouth car. For me, this is one of the most beautiful and iconic buildings in New York City, and well worth a visit in its own right.
With the advent of smart phones and hand held devices, I guess the traditional paper back guide book has a lot of competition from these other sources of `instant' information. I am pretty much old school and prefer guide books, but this should not stop the would be visitor from doing research before departure using all available forms of information outlets and sourcing that one good guide book that you can keep with you on your travels. It would be good idea to check out the various books, some of which are now themed for particular interest.
The Frommer's book then is a good general guide book with full colour pictures, not a light read, but rather a book you could do in `small bites', as it is well set out and areas of interest are colour coded. There are two very useful maps, one that is a pull out. The other map gives a good guide to the `grid system layout' of the city of Manhattan by subway. The grid system lay out is perhaps one the easiest ways to navigate the city although in some parts near lower Manhattan the system works less well. These two maps are not the only ones in the guide, there are several more that go into specific detail. The way the book is sectioned is helpful and enables fast referencing, You would be hard pressed not to find something to plan or do in the `Big Apple' this book covers more than anyone could see comfortably in one visit. What is also very nice is the way sights and attractions are listed by the neighbourhoods they are in. The Frick Collection is another must see and this is also listed in the guide book with helpful details on opening and closing times, there is also a nice colour plate of one the grand rooms at the Museum.
All in all a good general interest guide book with updated information in a very user friendly format, while not pocked sized it would fit in a coat pocket or small bag.

tis is a very detailed city guide. maybe a little to heavy to carry around all day, but amazing for planning what to do and where to go. the book has an amazing amount of information and colour pictures and is set out in a great format.
if carrying the book around is a little too much when you visit this amazing city uyou will never be lost as you have a pocket map inclided in this book folded into the back cover to take with you.
