About the Author
Jennifer Eveland spent part of her childhood in Singapore, has studied in Hong Kong, and has lived in Bangkok and Singapore since 1998. In addition to writing Frommer’s Singapore & Malaysia, she contributes to Frommer’s Southeast Asia, and has updated previous editions of Frommer’s Thailand. She writes regularly for The International Herald Tribune, co–wrote Top Ten Singapore (Dorling Kindersley, UK), and has contributed travel, policy, finance, and lifestyle stories to local and international magazines and books. She lives near Singapore’s Little India with her husband, a Singaporean musician and producer, and their young son.

Frommer's info is well-written and clear but 228 out of 299 pages deal only with Singapore and this book has no information at all about Sarawak and Sabah, the best places in Malaysia in my opinion.The info on Taman Negara Park and it's activities, such as rafting were scanty and there was no info on the islands of the eastern peninsula.

I live in Singapore but bought this book to be used by my frequent guests.
Without exception, they loved it.
The writing style was clear and lyrical, and the tips and insights fascinating. It's so nice to read a book written by someone who actually lives here and really understands the place and its culture.
I liked the fact that it focussed on Singapore rather than Malaysia as I find too many other guides do the opposite. The level of detail on Singapore was really helpful. It would not have been possible to cover Malaysia in the same level of detail and keep the book under 2000 pages so I'm glad she didn't try. If I want book on Malaysia I'll buy one, but this offered just enough to whet my interest.
I will be awaiting the next edition with interest.

You would never expect that a travel book would actually be interesting. But suprise suprise! Jennifer Eveland's writing style tells not only fun things to do, but gets into socio-economic descriptions of the areas she visits, as well as bringing history and religious input about the areas as well. Whether you're going to Singapore or Malasia, or just facying the idea, this book will proove great reading, and create interesting dinner conversation.
