Book Description

5 Nov 2010 Frommer's Day by Day - Pocket (Book 142)
Day by Day guides are short and punchy city guides that direct travellers on a short break around the city in the most effective way. The guides are aimed at sophisticated travellers who are looking for a very accessible read to make the most of their stay. Through the use of special–interest tours in the books, travellers are able to get a good idea of the geography of their city instantly before exploring it in an interesting way, giving people some surprising choices for what to see and do, that they might not have thought to consider normally. These travellers know that there′s a kind of science to organizing your time on a trip, to avoid a lot of needless backtracking or overbooking and Day by Days provide this information in an accessible way. Includes special interest tours that appeal to tapas lovers, history enthusiasts, art and architecture buffs and New World adventurers. Details great neighborhood walking tours through Barrio Santa Cruz, Centro, Triana, Alameda and Macarena. Includes day trips to Italica and Carmona. Features include wandering in the Alcazar, enjoying the passion of impromptu flamenco dancing, discovering incredible ornate interiors in old churches, cycling along the riverbank and reclining in a Moorish teahouse.

Review

‘ We can confidently recommend this book to anyone planning to visit Seville.’ (Beyond London.com, July 2011).

From the Author

So many guidebooks to Seville... so why buy this one?

Well, firstly the Frommer's Day By Day format is unique and in my opinion very smart. Instead of chopping a destination up into areas, as is the case with most guidebooks, Day By Days use guided walking tours - The best in a day, The best in two days, The best in three days, Neighbourhoods and Special themes. There are also detailed listings sections - shops, hotels, restaurants and nightlife - but it's the tours that make the book. No more flicking between chapters to make sure you don't miss anything or fumbling for maps - the information is already organised for you complete with maps and detailed descriptions. It's intuitive and easy to use - so you make the most of your time. Just follow the points on the tours of you choice. Perfect if you only have a few days in which to see the city.

Secondly, I've researched it into the ground... This is a brand new book written (and photographed) from spending months in Seville walking and cycling the city. 40,000 words, 30 odd maps and several hundred images... it's not just full of info I've discovered, it's also full of stuff that people who live there told me. Most of them have become good friends in the process.

I hope it makes your trip to one of Europe's most romantic cities just that bit more delightful.

As a professional travel journalist, I use guidebooks all the time, and this one is one of the best I've seen in ages. It has everything you need to know for a long weekend (or longer) in Seville. The map is excellent, and layout of the book is innovative and useful, but the best bit is that the author's voice comes through (I like this, don't like that, but you might, etc). After all, the author IS the expert, but so many guidebook publishers insist the author remain completely neutral and just present dry facts. Well done Frommers for encouraging their authors to tell it like it is (or at least like they experience it).

I had access to many other guidebooks for this trip (Eyewitness Seville, Rough Guides Andalucia, etc), and this one was the only one I used.

3.0 out of 5 stars adequate 16 Mar 2009

This small guide was useful for a short 4 days break.
If one was going for longer and wanted more in-depth information, this guide would not be sufficient.
Maps are not very good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't go without it! 21 Oct 2010
By Rob
Format:Paperback
As a first time and non-Spanish speaking solo visitor to Seville, I found this handy-sized guide invaluable. The themed walks provide enough guidance to start exploring but aren't so rigid you can't wander off when you spot soemthing. Best of all, the eating out tips were spot on accurate: I found great tasting, great value food and drink with ease.

Going to Seville for the first time for a few days, and in need of a good guide for looking, doing, eating etc.
Good layout, good enough map for walking about and useful info on transport and annual events.
Good price, pocketable size and well written.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does the job and more. 14 Feb 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is perfect for a long week-end. It's cheap and practical. Gives all the essentials in a nicely descriptive way and also plenty of tips on restaurants, bars, shopping, etc. In the absence of a Top 10 Seville Guide from DK, this is the best alternative.

I live in Seville and this is the guide book I lend to people when they come to stay. It's up-to-date, easy to use and the best thing is it's pocket-sized. Perfect for a short visit to the city.

5.0 out of 5 stars great little guide 7 May 2011
Format:Paperback
I've used a few of these Day by Day guides and I really like them. I also like Seville so it was good to see this one come out. The author's obviously worked hard at finding some out-of-the-way places, in addition to the obvious ones, and has captured the flavour of the city - which is sometimes hard to do in a guidebook. Some of them are very stilted, but not this one. I like the way it told you how to get the best out of the city however many days you had, and I agree with the other reviewer who said the restaurant reviews were very good. For the price, it's as good a guide as you'll get. Lots of really colourful photos too, so a nice souvenir afterwards.
