5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for our trip 24 May 2011
By Mr Gumby TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was the most helpful of the five books we took on our trip up the New England coast. It covers the Maine coast in just the right level of detail, including information on small towns and villages, drives to remote spots, accommodation and dining. It's also lightweight, which helps with staying within airline luggage limits as well as carrying it around.

In summary - highly recommended if you're planning to spend more than a day or two on the Maine coast (and if you're not you should be!). Acadia National Park has to be the highlight but there's so much more.

PS In case it helps anyone, the Harraseeket Inn in Freeport was our favourite hotel of the five we stayed in. It was comfortable and elegant with excellent breakfasts, complimentary afternoon tea/cakes and a choice of good-value casual dining in the tavern or more formal meals in the main restaurant. Freeport is nothing special apart from the outlet shopping but it makes a pretty good centre for a few days of trips to Portland, the nearby coast, etc.

Used this guide on a trip touring Maine last month.
It was generally very informative and told you the best places to visit including national parks, beaches, views, museums, restaurants and hotels etc. In our experience it was pretty accurate in its descriptions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Before Friends Visit Maine 25 Feb 2008
By Bob Pelletier - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I live on the coast of Maine and have many requests from friends to visit during the summer and fall. I always send this book out before my friends arrive so that they can see everything the Maine coast has to offer and so that I can adequately make a plan for them to see the things that matter most to them. It is an invaluable guide and it "spot on" with descriptions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great and helpful book 11 Jun 2007
By A. Mosley - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book helped our family find great places to stay overnight instead of the typical chain hotels. My husband found his new favorite restaurant in Portland off of the suggestions in the book. It was an out of the way restaurant and we would have never found that great find without the Frommer's book.

We referred to this book frequently during our stay in Acadia. We didn't find any errors or misinformation, and so I'm giving it the highest rating because it served its purpose well.
