I have been travelling to Madrid for years on and off and know the city well. But I have struggled to find a decent guide that covers all the ground. Some, like Lonely Planet have good maps but are superficial on museums, culture and dreadful when it comes to restaurants. Others stress culture or eating out but are thin on practicalities.

This is the only book I have found which covered the ground. And it's down to the author who writes clearly and wittily, has good taste in food and hotels and is clearly a genuine authority on Spain rather than a person shipped in to do a quick job.

If you are looking at this item then you have probably chosen to go to Madrid.
Madrid is lovely, inviting, warm and has lots and lots of history.
This guide is perfect. It can be read before you go so you can plan your days. It can be read whilst you're there to find something of interest.
It's a handy size too.

Tips: the walks are really recommended and this guide guides you to some areas that you wouldn't have considered.
The cycle ride from tourist information is fun and was the highlight of our visit.
The park was a full day out, with the boating lake particularly impressive.

We went for four days and didn't manage the Cultural side (not enough time) but the guide recommended what to do if you liked night-life, had children, like Culture etc. So something for everyone.

A reasonably priced, well informed, well presented guide that is neither too short or over-long.

We'll be going back to Madrid and we'll be taking this guide again too.

If you want a guide with lots of information this is not the guide for you....but if you want recommendations about places to visit, routes and how best use your time in Madrid..then this guide is great and Very light to carry in your bag!! The map only cover the main city center but if you go to any tourist information in Madrid they will give you a bigger map for free!
I found it very useful!!!
