5.0 out of 5 stars Frommer's Chinese Phrase finder 29 Aug 2009
By H. Klemm - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The book is quite small and therefore the type is also quite small. That means it is generally not very useful to older travelers. However, I used it in China and found it very good because it even has pinyin and also indicates the tones, which is very important, lest one will not be understood. It also has a small but useful dictionary for both languages Chinese-English and reverse.
5.0 out of 5 stars The best book for travel 12 May 2011

This is probably the best book that you can buy to learn Chinese. It provides very simple sentences that the person going to China can understand and use.In a worse case scenario you can find a simple phrase to say what you need and can either try to speak the words or show the Chinese translation to the other person. The book was recommended by a university professor that teaches Chinese. In this situation I used the book along with a person in China using Skype. We started at the beginning and I spoke the words in English and she would repeat until correct. Then she would say the word or phrase in Chinese and I would repeat until correct. The key to learning any language is to learn it from a native speaker if possible. There are many teachers of foreign languages that have never lived in the country whose language they teach.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good enough 3 Aug 2010

Has a few minor errors and a couple of quirks---when space is tight, why is there a special section on profanity? On the whole, though, it's the best phrasebook I've flipped through.
