4.0 out of 5 stars Good size for a small break 6 Nov 2012

I was really impressed with this guide. I was going to Chicago for a long weekend so didn't need a massive guide and I knew I wouldn't have time to venture outside the city. This was the right size to pop in a bag without weighing me down whilst sightseeing.

The pull-out maps are a nice idea, and come in a plastic pocket to keep them safe. I must admit I didn't really use them much, I relied much more on the maps printed within the guide itself. If you like guided walks this is a great book as there are a number of suggested walks (at around two hours) which are well mapped and illustrated. I headed off to Wicker Park for the architectural tour which was really good fun and very different in feel to the high-rises of downtown Chicago.

The museum maps are also really good. The Art Institute floor plans were especially useful in pre-planning where I wanted to go and what I wanted to see (although a free map at the Art Institute itself had more detail and was better to use once you were there).

Useful tips, as well, especially on public transport. I have had Frommer's guides previously which I found sometimes suggested restaurants or travel options that were a little pricey. The restaurant suggestions in the Chicago guide were much more down-to-earth.

Overall, a great little travel guide if you're not spending long in Chicago and just want to get the most out of a small trip.
