This book is about a young guy who comes to the country to marry a rich woman. This guy's most peculiar feature (to the country people) is that he has a beard and the book contains a lot of funny talk about this beard. As a whole the book is really enjoyable but it's the end that's surprising. I had read Powell's Fisher King before but I enjoyed this one better.

I would give all of Powell's novels 5 stars. From a View to a Death is perhaps not his best book, but the quality of his writing is so high that 5 stars are, for me, standard. Well written and extremely amusing. An essential addition to your collection of Powell, or a good book to introduce you to his work, before you embark on The Dance to the Music of Time novels. Read this book; read all of Powell's books. Start now before its too late.
