From Student to Solicitor is an excellent step by step guide that gives clear practical advice for would be solicitors at all levels of legal education.
From 6th form to the Degree right through to the training contract the information on your options and aims is presented in a check-list like fashion, with pursuant quotes from well known lawyers in local government, London firms and the major southern regional firms incorporating viewpoints from former City lawyers, academics and even legal HR managers.
If you need a guide on what to do, when to do and how to get it done then look no further.
This is the cheapest investment you could ever make in your legal career (at current rates this is about the same as you pay for one hour of lectures!).

I bought this book as I began my second year of university studying a law degree, in the hope it would provide me with some guidance on the process of securing a training contract. It has since proved to be an invaluable tool, which I have referred to countless times.

It is written in an accessible format and takes you clearly through the process of securing a training contract, considering every step of the route from applying to university for a law degree and undertaking work experience, to writing CV's, covering letters and applications, and providing tips on how to impress at interviews and assessment centres.

There is a wealth of knowledge included in the book drawing from practical advice from top lawyers and trainees from City and regional firms as well as advice from legal HR managers, who often play a key role in the recruitment process.

The book helped me to gain a better insight into the recruitment process and make more focused applications. I also found the interview section, which includes some practice questions, particularly helpful.

I am now going into my 3rd year of University having secured a training contract over the summer, and credit the book for helping me to achieve my goal. I would definitely recommend it.

I purchased this book prior to starting the training contract application process and it has not left my desk since. The book is accessible to anyone at any stage of their legal career - from A Level choices to beyond. Anyone contemplating purchasing this book will know that deciding to pursue a legal career is not an easy one, particularly at the present time. With this in mind, the author provides some frank but encouraging words of advice from a variety of individuals in the legal profession, alongside unpretentious advice from her own experience.
