This film is based on the famous poem by "Banjo" Paterson. It tells the story of the tough folk who live and work in the mountainous Snowy River region of NSW and of the tale of the day a young raw rider outrode all the veterans across impossible terrain to recapture a prize colt running with a herd of brumbies. Written into the film, but not in the original poem, is a romance between the young rider, Jim, and the daughter of the colts owner. This is a wonderful film and also captures the breathtaking scenery of the region well.
A great tribute to the story well known to Aussie school kids.

This film will touch your heart, horse lover or not. It tells the tale of a man who lives deep in the Snowy mountains, and his herd of horses. Of course, there is romance too, in the form of Jesse. The scenery in this film is breath taking, as it is in the sequel, Return to Snowy River. The scene where Jim's oldest and most bonded horse is shot from beneath him will always make me cry!
The second film sees Jim's herd of semi-wild ponies expand, and the baddies try to steal his herd. Of course, there's the girl to be won, too.
Truely recomendable! I'm just happy to have found that these films are still around..........but I don't have a DVD player! The search continues!
