Book Description

Aug 2003 Watercolour Tips & Techniques
Everything you need to know about transforming a rough sketch into a painting you can be proud of - a complete inspirational course for all those who love to sketch and paint. Wendy Jelbert begins this book by asking the question "why sketch?". Her answer is that it is the best way to record inspirational scenes and to capture special moments. Through a series of step-by-step projects Wendy demonstrates how to develop your sketching skills and to transform a sketch into a finished painting. Everything is covered from capturing detail, composition and texture to making the most of your sketchbooks. Many of Wendy's finished paintings and the sketches that inspired them are included throughout the book.

About the Author

Wendy Jelbert studied sculpture, abstract art, pottery and printmaking at Southampton College of Art. She is a teacher and professional artist who works in pastels, oils, acrylics, inks and watercolours. She enjoys experimenting with different ways of using mixed media and texture and her sometimes unconventional methods often produce surprising and original results. She lives near Andover in Hampshire, and has three children, two of whom are professional painters. Galleries in Southampton, London, Brighton, Cornwall and Oxford regularly exhibit her work, and she has had a number of articles published in the Leisure Painter magazine. Wendy has written nine art books and has also made three videos - on mixed media, painting gardens and line and wash.

4.0 out of 5 stars interesting tips 23 Aug 2010
By D&D TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
It may be useful to know that this book is also part of a bigger book "Watercolour Tips and Techniques" which for about 15 includes three other books: "Starting to Paint" by Arnold Lowry, "Perspective, Depth and Distance" by Geoff Kersey, and "Painting Mood and Atmosphere" by Barry Herniman.

It's a curious combination, without obvious rhyme or reason, but - if you were (or could be) interested in all these books - is good value. Having recently borrowed the bigger book from the library, I will probably now buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful lessons 14 Nov 2010
By Sue B.
Format:Paperback
This book took ages to arrive from World of Books, which is unfortunate, as it is exactly what I was looking for in developing my watercolouring.
It contains plenty of detailed instruction and examples and I think that it will be really useful in moving from the first stages in painting (which tend to rely on copying) to a more independent approach.

4.0 out of 5 stars From Sketch to Painting 11 July 2011
Format:Paperback
It depends how experienced you are at painting whether this book
is going to be excellent or just alright.
If you are a beginner you will find a lot of useful information to follow and you will get a lot of benifit from it.
