Biography

Originating from the furthest reaches of Upper-Egypt, The Musicians of the Nile have criss-crossed Europe over the last 20 years. Like the ancient bards of time past, the difference is that they move through space and cultures as comfortably on an airplane as on the back of a donkey.

Discovered in 1975 by Alain Weber, who has been their artistic director ever since, the Musicians of the ... Read more in Amazon's Musicians Of The Nile Store

The pieces chosen for this disc bring to life the sounds of Egypt. The vocals are almost hypnotic. There are interesting rhythms and by listening I have begun to understand the differences between Western and Eastern music. They have included sounds from the locality so that in your imagination it is easy to imagine you are part of the culture in the heat of the Nile. There are also a numbner of tracks that can be used effectively for Arabic dancing. There is no limit to the choreography that can be done. I have enjoyed the variety of tracks as an introduction to this type of music.

Great Sounds of Traditional Egypt! 25 April 1999
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
If you have ever visited Upper Egypt and experienced the wonderful music created by the local musicians, then this is the CD for you. I have been searching for traditional music of the Upper Egypt area and finally found it. From the opening sounds of the horse and buggy and street sounds in Luxor to the haunting and melodic sounds of the rababah to the beat of the tablah, it is a wonderful collection of songs. I have visited Upper Egypt twice and had the great opportunity to hear these musicians in person. This CD brought back great memories of that experience in sound!! A must for your collection and I highly recommend it. I hope to find more like it!
