Product Description

Everyone wants to be famous, don't they?

Not Jessica Granger. Her father was the movie star who played the world's favourite James Bond and, worse, her mother was voted sexiest-ever Bond Girl for her role as Heavenly Melons. Like it or not, fame is in her blood.

But Jessica dearly wants to be someone in her own right.

So she flees Hollywood for London, seeking independence in a city where nobody knows her name. But when she finds a job as a celebrity booker on a chat show she realizes the more friends she makes, the harder it is to keep up the lies about who she is. And when Jessica falls for Paul, a writer on the show, her life as a double agent causes double trouble.

With the truth of her past about to explode into her new world, can Jessica convince Paul she's the real deal? Or maybe a sprinkling of the old 007 magic will spice up her love life?

Jessica is the daughter of James Bond and Heavenly Melons, or at least the actors behind those much loved roles. She's fed up of everyone treating her differently because of who her parents are and decides to jump on a plane to London and create a new identity for herself.

Jemma's writing is amusing and I even managed a chuckle out loud in places. I did much prefer the story of Jessica's parents than the central plot. We barely stop to think that A-listers are often parents too and, whilst some things are easier for them than the average Joe, in many ways they are just the same as you and me.

Written in third person, the narrative seems to jump perspective quite a lot. When there's a conversation between love interests, I don't really want to know the thoughts behind both sides at that moment in time. It takes all the mystery out of it and makes it a bit predictable. I think I would have preferred the viewpoints to be more distinguished.

The story also attempts to deal with a more serious subject, that of post-natal depression. However it's not brought up in the first half of the book and therefore seems a little out of place after all the frivolity. The first half concentrates more on an American's view of the British, Jessica trying to be normal and making friends/boyfriends. At 472 pages, it's longer than I personally like in a chick-lit read but some people like to get plenty of pages for their money!

Definitely a fun read if you want something easy-going this summer.

Don't even think of going on holiday this year without putting Jemma Forte's latest book in your suitcase. It's sassy, funny, moves along at 100 miles an hour, and hits all the buttons. She has a real gift for chronicling the life of 30-something Londoners, describes the totally up itself world of everyday media folk so well, and has lots of astute observations about the differences between Americans and Europeans. If you enjoy office banter, seasoned with the ups and downs of motherhood, with a dash of hilarious disco action, and some vintage Hollywood romance, plus some serious messages about growing up, this is for you.

From London with Love is Jemma Forte's second novel, although it is the first that I have read. It tells the story of Jessica, the daughter of a former James Bond actor and Bond girl, desperate to just be herself and not rely on getting things because of who her parents are. Seeing no other option, Jessica flees Hollywood and heads to London where nobody knows who she is.

This book is a light and breezy read, it has plenty of characters all with a different story, so it never gets boring as there is always something different going on. I usually prefer books written in the first person, however, this one is written in the third person and I felt that it really worked and was done exceptionally well. There's not a character's thought or feeling that we are not told about, which really made the book stand out for me.

This is defintely a book for fans of chick-lit and while, like most chick-lit books, the outcome is fairly predictable, it's fun getting there as Jemma Forte has dotted plenty of humour and antics throughout the length of the story.
