Product Description

Product Description

This book is about taking an image- a drawing, painting, digital photograph, computer design or photocopy- and, using simple methods, turning it into a piece of textile art. The author takes you through a variety of techniques for creating the image, such as scanning mixed-media artwork and digital photographs, or using imaging software to create exciting patterns and effects. No technical knowledge is required to use this book, as it offers easy-to-follow instructions, and the materials, technology and equipment are all readily available. But at the centre of the book lies the use of stitch. Having produced the image and transferred it to fabric, the next step is to enhance it with hand or machine embroidery. Innovative methods, both in the image transfer and the stitch, are simplified and broken down into the easy stages. Throughout the book, inspirational ideas are offered to get your creativity going. From books to bangles, panels, bags and vessels, the book offers all textile artists ideas to expand their creative work.

Just bought this - an excellent purchase. Full of inspiring examples, great ideas to try out, and hints and tips - all illustrated with clear colour photos. Recommended for anyone doing City & Guilds - especially the "Creative Computing into Textiles" course.

truly inspiring 15 Nov 2008

Wow. This is one inspirational book. The cover is very intriguing and whets the appetite for a book that does not fail to deliver. This beautifully presented book shows you how to take an image from photocopy to painting and how to transfer it into textile art. Projects include books to bangles and much more besides.
The methods used are uncomplicated and are therefore suitable for beginners or experienced stitchers alike. No technical knowledge is necessary to follow the precise instructions. Having produced an image by whatever means, this book then shows you how to transform that image by hand or machine embroidery. I love the creativity of this book, Maggie Grey is a true guiding light and will boost your own imagination to produce exciting pieces of textile art. This is a fascinating side of stitching, fully explored in this book .
My own ideas on this have only just begun to form after I saw a textile artist printing on silk through an inkjet printer. My imagination was fired and this book presents me with the know-how to complete the projects running around in my head. This is a very comprehensive book, covering many techniques. I find it invaluable.

just a pleasure 5 Feb 2009
Format:Hardcover
Maggie Grey has outdone herself again! Her books ar full of inspiration for both the budding and confirmed textile artist. She is a source of inspiration and "From Image to Stich" is no exception.
It is a pleasure to own. It is never out of place on any coffee table - as a picture book or as a conversational starter. Or set there to invite a new artist into our world.
