Wow. This is one inspirational book. The cover is very intriguing and whets the appetite for a book that does not fail to deliver. This beautifully presented book shows you how to take an image from photocopy to painting and how to transfer it into textile art. Projects include books to bangles and much more besides.
The methods used are uncomplicated and are therefore suitable for beginners or experienced stitchers alike. No technical knowledge is necessary to follow the precise instructions. Having produced an image by whatever means, this book then shows you how to transform that image by hand or machine embroidery. I love the creativity of this book, Maggie Grey is a true guiding light and will boost your own imagination to produce exciting pieces of textile art. This is a fascinating side of stitching, fully explored in this book .
My own ideas on this have only just begun to form after I saw a textile artist printing on silk through an inkjet printer. My imagination was fired and this book presents me with the know-how to complete the projects running around in my head. This is a very comprehensive book, covering many techniques. I find it invaluable.

Just bought this - an excellent purchase. Full of inspiring examples, great ideas to try out, and hints and tips - all illustrated with clear colour photos. Recommended for anyone doing City & Guilds - especially the "Creative Computing into Textiles" course.

Maggie Grey has outdone herself again! Her books ar full of inspiration for both the budding and confirmed textile artist. She is a source of inspiration and "From Image to Stich" is no exception.
It is a pleasure to own. It is never out of place on any coffee table - as a picture book or as a conversational starter. Or set there to invite a new artist into our world.

I am so pleased I bought this book, I am a mixed media/watercolour artist and I have noticed some fabulous textures coming through where people have experimented with all sorts of textures and materials. This book really got my juices flowing and encouraged me to really push the barriers towards incorporating stitching into my pictures. I would advise anyone who loves textures and mixed media to read through this book for inspiration.

Good mixed media guide for the contemporary textiles arts or fashion student. Some clear how-to instructions. I was looking for something which would help me think "outside of the box" of traditional methods and this book certainly helped kick start to process.

7 of 8 people found the following review helpful By Jane Austen "Jean" on 25 April 2010
Format: Hardcover
This book is beautifully illustrated with full colour plates so you can see the final outcome of the project. The author takes you through the process of producing a piece of textile art from an original photograph or drawing. There are two sections "Print on Paper" and "Print on Fabric" with information on how to make the most of a camera, scanner and printer.
I don't think that this book is suitable for an absolute beginner as the author assumes a certain level of knowledge in technology and needlework, especially the use of a sewing machine. The photography is superb throughout and makes you want to have a go straight away. My only reservation is that the projects need a certain level of experience and can be daunting for a first-time textile student. The author is a very talented lady and her enthusiasm for her subject is evident throughout. A lovely book to have on your shelf and is full of interesting ideas. I would give this book 3/5 simply because I didn't feel the projects were suitable for my level and experience. Brilliant for a more advanced person.
