Product Description

From an aristocratic Boston family, Helene Lamont was married in a lavish wedding at the same time she realized her groom, Phillip Drummond, was not the man she wanted to marry. A bit late, her infuriated groom snapped as he realized his trophy wife was about to turn into a disaster to his reputation as a business wunderkind.

Helene heads for her uncle’s ranch in Montana where she finds her deceased aunt’s journal has been left for her. Why does she need it? Her aunt and uncle had the perfect marriage, didn’t they?

As Helene settles into ranch life, her peace is disrupted by the arrival of Phillip, who her uncle had invited to come west also and work on the ranch. At first Phillip resisted the idea of being a dude in a foreign environment, but he is angry that his own hard-won toughness has not been recognized by his runaway bride. He has come to win her love—well, actually love wasn’t on the agenda he hoped to win.

This is a story of the West as it was and is, about ranching life, and about two stories of love, one revealed through the journal and the other the modern couple who find what they thought they wanted wasn’t necessarily what they needed. The climax is a battle against nature in the raw.

At 92,157 words, ‘From Here to There’ is about our illusions—some of which end up being true. (trailer on Amazon author page and Rain Trueax channel at YouTube-- http://www.youtube.com/user/RainTrueax

Pleasantly surprised 11 May 2012

I picked this up when it was offered free recently. Having come across many really bad indie books (as well as some really good ones), since I bought my Kindle in February, I wasn't sure what to expect from this indie offering. The book description sounded promising however, so I thought I would give it a go.

I was glad I did. I found it well written, formatted and edited. In fact, once I got into the book, it almost felt like I was reading a romance novel from a traditional publisher.

I found the main characters very likeable, but also believable. They were not perfect - they had their faults, got angry, made mistakes, but they had strong morals and ideals. They strove to improve and do right by each other - my kind of people :-)

My favourite characters were the Uncle and his co-worker. Their scenes put a smile on my face each time :-).

The only reason I didn't give the book 4 stars was because I felt the book could have used a little more detail in places, in particular with the characters' back stories and their families.

Although we got to know the two main protagonists pretty well, I also wanted to know more about the supporting cast. I would have loved for the book to be a little longer so that we could have had a few more scenes with the other characters. It would have helped with fleshing out the environment a little more (plus the Uncle and his co-worker were just so much fun, they deserved more scenes :-)).

I would probably not buy another book by the author, but only because the book contained a couple of sex scenes that were stronger than what I like to read (my favourite genre is Christian fiction).

I would rate the sex scenes around a 2-3 out of 5. (NB My preference is 0-1, so it is not like the scenes were extremely graphic or anything).

I would recommend this book to adults who like romances, in particular those who would enjoy a modern version of the prairie romance.

A very good read 17 April 2012

I do not consider myself to be a romance story reader but this is the second of Rain's books I've read and I liked it. She says her stories are romance type but with an edge. Maybe that is the difference that I like. There is romance but it isn't overwhelming and does feel like it ought to in real life. The setting for this one is quite different from the first one I read that was set in the desert of Arizona but here she also does a great job of enabling the reader to create a mental picture of the setting, in Montana in this case. I don't want to go too much into the detail of the story but it covers some of the problems people have to deal with in everyday life, such as dealing with older relatives, commercial development in rural areas and of course personal relationships. And I must not forget one of the main heroes, Hobo!

From Here to There 30 Jan 2012

FROM HERE TO THERE is an exceptional masterpiece. Rain Truax builds the story to a climax as believeable as it is incredibly exciting. Beyond the romance is the background that went into the story. Rain has always wanted to write this story. When I first knew her in 1965, she was reading autobiographys of ranchers and small farmers. In the 1980's she wrote me long letters about her ranching experiences for practicing her craft and recording her experiences to remember later after child rearing. I read her letters that went over my head. We had a disagreement on my city slicker values versus hers grounded in the Western life style of the ranching community. After years of great distance between us, we agreed to disagree on issues that politically divide the country today. In fact Rain thought our differences would cause old sparks to surface and she was prepared for a negative review. After reading her story I understand the roots of her views. This book is masterly crafted art - a must read for deeper understanding of the American heritage of family, community, business and health care values. Most importantly FROM HERE TO THERE is a must read for a very satisfying, enjoyable experience.
