Product Description

Go inside the Animal Liberation Front.

Written by former Animal Liberation Front organizer Keith Mann, From Dusk 'til Dawn is a detailed account of the advance of the radical Animal Liberation Movement, from the English hunt saboteurs of the 1960's, to the Animal Liberation Front of the 1970's and 80's, to the focused direct action campaigns of the 1990's. Daring stories of masked liberators spiriting animals from labs in the middle of the night, militant vegans firebombing egg farm trucks, and the dramatic government response.

Fifteen years in the making, From Dusk 'til Dawn was born during Keith Mann's lengthy prison sentence for Animal Liberation Front actions. His escape from custody in 1994 nearly scuppered the project but his determination to document the growth of the animal liberation movement ensured its completion. From Dusk 'til Dawn is a must-read for anyone wishing to understand why people break the law and give their lives to rescue animals from exploitation.

Compelling reading 18 Jan 2010
Format:Paperback
This book is a must read, for anyone interested in not only, the welfare and rights of animals, but also how the Government and it's formal agencies seek to repress those from speaking out, about injustice. This book had me on a rollercoaster of emotions, from anger, frustration, a heavy heart, it left my blood boiling, while it also inspired me and made me laugh. But more importantly it took me to a higher level of consciousness. Keith Mann is the most compassionate, inspiring, original, free thinker I have ever come across. He pushes for people to think outside the box, and that can only be a good thing. We need more people like him. You must buy this book you just won't be able to put it down.

I came across this book offline at a vegan festival 2 years or more ago. There was no way I would have ever found this book at a local, no surprise there, these books have all the goodies they don't like people to read as makes people think rather than just agree.

This book is like a history recording of the animal liberation front, groups that risked their own freedom to save animals and collect and display the dirt behind animal consuming industries. Also how Keith Mann got caught, how he escaped, what he did in his time in and out of prison, the differences between ALF and other groups that aren't as forgiving. The dirty tactics the media used (still uses) against animal rights in general, the so called animal charities such as RSPCA, HSUS, and others that weren't quite as "animal rights" as people thought. Examples are given, statements taken, so many things one never gets to read in a paper or typical media forms.

There is humour, sadness, determination, throughout this book. Its also been useful for taking notes on when comparing them to those who say all sorts of things they claimed the ALF was, such as accusations of them "leaving animals to burn in labs" when that was never the case.
There are some photos of animals in the book, not nice ones either, especially the one with the monkey they call "Britches". But they really should not surprise people because its been going on all the time, but the public are desensitized to it thanks to the media.

The only bad thing I find in this book is the links at the end, some are good, but some could be bad now or worse non existent because the internet is notorious for removing websites they say are "out of date", "site not found" or when whoever runs them can't keep them running due to costs.
Also the link to PETA is shown, although they did seem to help animal rights back in the day. Nowadays they don't seem to be genuine anymore. I also think that organization just used ALF to gain some credit anyway.
There are some good books mentioned though, including the ones by Hans Ruesch, which I also recommended personally.

Interestingly at the very end the incident of the "9/11" bombings is mentioned. Those who read the book up to this point will know what Keith says when we are not told everything. I just hope people who do read up about that don't get ensnared into those conspiracy groups on the internet that aren't as sincere as some hoped.

An important book 13 Jun 2007
Format:Paperback
This really is essential reading if you're interested in the captive state of animals.

This book explores the recent history of the animal liberation movement, telling many stories of what has happened, and why. Recounting tales which bring both joy and sadness.

It may have taken a long time to be completed but it is definitely worth it.
