Okay, I may have been rather tight with the rating I've given this, but on comparison to his other two albums 'Boulevard' and more recently 'Tourist' this I'm afraid comes in miles behind. In my view, only a small handfull of the tracks on this album live up to St Germain's reputation - 'Deep in it','Soul salsa soul' and 'My Mama said'. The other 9 tracks are very disappointing - they're so repetitious and flat you'd find more rhythm out of something just squashed by a steamroller. Buy it, if you want to complete your St Germain collection, but first time buyers..... don't bother - you'd be better off spending your money on his other, far better albums.

On listening to the whole album (note: I bought the 12 track version) in hinesight it isn't really that bad. In the previous review I brought out my feelings, on what little of the album I had listened to. 'Alabama Blues', 'French', and 'My mama said' on closer judgement have to be the better tracks from the album. A lot of the album, is an archive of his earlier work dating back as far as January 1992. Obviously this is far repetitive than his newer work, as it was predominately recorded on underground labels, but if you listen to them carefully you can discover where he has developed specific roots of instrumental and mixing technique. These are most evident in his other two albums- 'Boulevard'from 1995 and 'Tourist' released earlier this year. So this time, I'd advise you to buy it - there's some good stuff on this.

House/Funk/Groove and is wery good 3 Sep 1999

"Ludovic Navarre, together with Laurent Garnier and Shazzwas one of the originators of the French electronic music scene. Since'91, under various pseudonyms(SUB SYSTEM,DEEPSIDE,MODUS VIVENDI,St GERMAIN and more...) he was instrumental in initiating the techno and jazz-house side of the French scene. His entire early works have not been available since demise of the FNAC MUSIC - DANCE DIVISION in '94. This album represents his quintessential works on FNAC MUSIC & F COMMUNICATIONS from '92 to '96 and gives a comprehensive view of the amazing quality and diversity of his talent. We all look forward to more from Ludovic Navarre... soon!"

Deep, jazzy chilled-out house music - Excellent 7 Oct 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Ludovic Navarre has inspired countless deep house producers with his releases on F Comms and FNAC Music. This collection embraces an astounding spectrum of influences from jazz, techno, blues, afrobeat and latin music to be one of the finest house releases this year. 'Alabama Blues' combines touches of ambient house with blues, while 'Move' and 'French' are more techno-influenced. 'Modus Vivendi' remains a classic. In short, this album will appeal to a wide variety of house and techno music fans and is the perfect antidote to the flood of 'This Is Ibiza Trance Anthems Vol. 95'-type records released so far this year.
