Product Description

This e-book contains ten stories from the crowded mind of David Barber.

There’s a variation of stories from a psychiatrist having a bad day to a school teacher being pushed over the edge - and a few confessions in between. The collection includes a mixture of genres with elements of crime and noir running through them as well as some dark wit.

David Barber is from Manchester, England but now lives in Crieff, Scotland with his wife, Lisa, their 2 daughters, Imogen and Melissa and their West Highland Terrier, Archie.

He wrote a long time ago but left it on the backburner when his children were born. He was inspired to start writing again in 2009 when his friend, and editor of Thrillers, Killers ‘n’ Chillers, Col Bury, invited him to send something into the magazine. His story (all six sentences of it) was accepted and went on to win a Bullet Award. That little accolade gave him the confidence to get back to it.

Since then, his writing has appeared in many online magazines as well as in e-book and print anthologies.

David is also the editor of The Laughter Shack, where he masquerades as BJ Titzengolf, helped by his loyal assistants, Joanne Kallott and Mike Oxlong.

He is currently working on his first novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars from a brilliant mind, more like 6 July 2012

This is a fine selection of 10 stories from the pen of David Barber. Each story is a finely crafted tale, where all the characters are well drawn and the plots are plausible. I took this with me to read on my 2 hour commute today, and the journey just flew by, I was so engrossed I didn't want to put it down. I nearly forgot to get off when we reached Victoria. This collection has a fine mix of genres, Brit grit, crime, noir even humour, which just goes to show what a gifted writer David Barber is. To be able to switch between genres and still maintain a high level of quality shows his talent at it's best. So stop reading this review and click buy, you wont regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Twisted 7 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Given the range of story ideas in this collection, it's easy to see why David Barber chose the title `From A Crowded Mind'. His head must be buzzing.

Each piece is solidly put together and oozes darkness.

My favourite has a man and wife in conversation in a car parked at a loch-side. It's confession time and it's the kind of moment that would make anyone feel uncomfortable. As with all the stories, there's a significant twist; in this one, it comes gently and was entirely unexpected.

There is a slight drawback to having so many twist-in-the-tale pieces together (though avid fans of the unexpected will have a feast on this one) which is that one begins to look for the catch. This can mean that the eye is taken from the set-up and puts a weight of responsibility on to the surprise. My suggestion is that to get the most from this collection, it might be best to read it amidst other books so that the stings will be fresh and painful every time you come across them. Keep those endings camouflaged until the last moment.

That said this is a very entertaining collection, one that brought me a fair amount of pleasure. I'll make certain I'm back for Volume 2 when it arrives.
