Product Description

As Britain's most successful and high profile make-up artist, for the past 15 years Gary Cockerill has glossed the lips, curled the lashes and shared the secrets of the famous and fabulous.

With his unique style of super-sexy, uber-glamorous make-up, Gary has been responsible for helping to launch the careers and keep the secrets of a host of famous names, including his best friend Katie Price.

But behind the glitz and glamour is a heart-warming and at times hilarious story of how a former Yorkshire coal miner with no training or contacts fought his way up to become the celebrity world's make-up artist of choice. In From Coal Dust to Stardust, Gary reveals how a job spray-painting the faces of shop mannequins in a grimy West London factory led him to America and a hair-raising stint working with the superstars of the adult film industry. He explains how he landed his first celebrity client and within a few years was back in Los Angeles again, only this time working with true Hollywood movie legends. Today, with a star-studded client list that reads like a copy of Vanity Fair magazine, Gary has become a loyal friend and confidante to many of his regular clients. In his role at the heart of the celebrity circus, he reveals what it was like to have a ringside seat for some of the most notorious tabloid scandals of the Noughties.

Running alongside Gary's rise to fame is his candid and moving account of coming to terms with his sexuality and meeting his first boyfriend - now husband, Phil Turner - while in the middle of planning a wedding to his glamour model fiancée Tracey. He also lays bare his own struggles with shopping addiction, his dabbles with drugs and how his newfound celebrity lifestyle threatened to spiral out of control and destroy everything he had worked for.

Gary's fairytale journey from the mines of Doncaster to the VIP rooms of London and LA is a moving and funny tale in the mould of Billy Elliot - if, that is, Billy ended up pole-dancing in a strip joint at the start of Act Two. Entertainingly gossipy but never bitchy or cruel, Coal Dust to Stardust will be a must-read for anyone interested in contemporary celebrity culture.

Interesting read. 9 Nov 2010
Format:Hardcover
Have to admit bought this book because of Gary's association with Katie Price, but was pleasantly surprised. Who knew how many famous people he worked with apart from Katie and lots of interesting details on his private life that I didn't know before he met Phil , his partner.

As i,ve said a good read and would recommend to anyone interested in Gary, please don't be put off by the Jordan haters as they most probably haven't even read it. I think you will be surprised . there's a lot more to this guy than being Jordan's mate.

Fantastic read! 18 Nov 2010
By Chan
Format:Hardcover
I have to say, Gary's book is one of the most fantastic autobiographies I have read. I read from cover to cover and was left in stitches! There are some very very funny stories!
It is such an inspiring read and really shows just how hard Gary has worked in his life and continues to do so. You can tell he is an amazing friend and very special.

There were some pretty emotional bits in there too which I admit I did shed a few tears! Gary and Phill have been together for nearly 20 years and by reading his book you can tell just how in love they were when they first met, and still are.

I can't recommend this book enough! My review just doesn't give it justice. Remember, it's about Gary and Gary's life, so if you're buying it thinking he's said anything horrible about anyone, you'll be disappointed. It's such a feel good book and some of the stories are hilarious!

For someone who we don't get to see on screen often enough Gary has that special touch which makes all the women he has made up feel and look absolutely fabulous.
It was a privilege to be able to have an insight into his life, well done Gary! Thank you for sharing it with us all! All you haters, please get a grip - you are pathetic.

You go Gary, I hope there's a next one after this!

fantastic read 18 Nov 2010
Format:Hardcover
Well what can I say even Gary has now felt the blow of Katie Price's haters and quite frankly lets face it, as if they even bought/read the book in the first place!!!

Gary is an extremely talented make up artist and he has done well to achieve that in his life as the tittle suggest!

He has a lot of famous clients (Not just Katie!)

In his personal relationship he has been with Phil for over 20 years, can a lot of people say the same in this day and age?

The book is really interesting and a real intriguing read AND if you have already typed his name in and now looking at his reviews you are already interested so I am just saying to go for it cos I am pleased I did!

It would also make a great present!

Everyone is entitled to a opinion when it is a opinion and it is a proper constructive REVIEW you are giving, if you are not prepared to do that then do not bother!

The Author doesn't deserve that and as a reader of review that is not want we want when deciding if we want the book or not!!

Enjoy, it's fab!!
